I saw Roger Waters at the Excel Center (in St. Paul) last week; I can't wait to see him again on TV.

Ive been watching it (hell Im house bound) just for the music Foo Fighters about the best so far I enjoyed a few, but the great piety of them all makes me sick, When I see them taking the bus or riding a bike then Ill ttake it seriously

I'm watchin it now thanks to your post Huubl. I had to kind of laugh when I saw Phil Collins was performing. Not a favorite, but I did see him live at Live Aid in Philadelphia about 25 years ago. It was a scorcher of a day (even then)🙂.
The cynics above piss me off. Raising awareness of a global crisis, whether using entertainers or politicians, is not reason for condemnation. What brave souls they are, takin' cheap shots at a guy that was elected President, got screwed out of it in "the biggest and best democracy in the universe", and then instead of going off to sulk, does more to raise awareness about global warming than anyone else I know.
Here's a link where you can watch live streams from all seven continents. Hundreds of thousands of people, from all over the planet earth, rejoicing in their youth, promoting healthy and responsible iving, well it sure beats the latest news from Iraq. Yeah, I think it is a worthy event.

I was out all day and missed it. I'm not worried though. I'll watch all those performers again when they do 'Live Bird' to 'raise awareness' about the bird flu.
I'm definitely one of the cynics. This little party they're having to save the earth is rather ridiculous and I doubt that it raises awareness of global warming anymore than a public service announcement after an episode of American Idol would.

Well... what is the plan? Put it to the electorate and lets see if it gets up. Strangeley (or maybe not if you're into vast left wing conspiracies) nobody is mentioning/offering that. Nobody is asking the electorate, certainly not the main contenders for POTUS 2008.
I think the message from the Gore Etc Internationale is that "they" want to disregard the various electorates involved and bring it in via the UN on a world scale -ie, act global, think local. Cart before the horse. Top down orders. A man convinced agin his will is of the same opinion still stuff. Politics 101 fgs. So there goes any credibility as far as I'm concerned. In brief, it boils down to undergrad agitprop in a new frock. Ho hum.

Al Gore is right. We are facing dramatic climate changes if we don't reduce CO emissions to about 1946 levels. But that is not the worst scenario we face today. With today's leaders we face total wipe out of the human race. Through war.Carzee said:

all this reminds me of the" War is Over " peace stuff of the late 60s, nice try but war is still with us.
the anti CO2 emissons thing is also very good, but people on this planet are hooked on consuming stuff, corporations rely on this for profit,and us for paying jobs.. we that can afford it, want stuff, people that do not have it yet, aspire to have things in the future.

I watched far more than I should have (most of the weekend), but the highlights for me were the Foo Fighters, Abington Boys School; Linkin Park had Tokyo in a frenzy; Melissa Ethridge did a great great lead-in to introduce Al Gore, Mayer and Clarkson were cool in their down-to-earthness; Cocco in Tokyo gave a touching little monologue about the effects of global warming in her home of Okinawa... I was impressed with the event overall.
Yes, it was a big event, however they made attemps to put it on with a low "carbon footprint"; much of it used solar energy where possible, they stressed using hybrid or high-efficiency transporation for organizers and artists where possible, etc. etc.; many of the artists noted for not coming on private jets, etc. The stages used LED lighting, and are to be recycled as well. Estimates at the end of the weekend are that approx. 10million have watched it online. I think it was a worthy event, and the benefits far outweighed the carbon costs of putting on the event.
