Our new year's photo resolutions...

I made my first self published zine/book this year and was able to sell it. Also, my favorite book store in Santiago (Chile) is selling it too. They recently got funding for a photobook festival in Santiago, so this year for me will be about finishing other books so I am ready. The pandemic has allowed me to edit my photography and to really focus on this aspect of my photography.

Seriously....I’ve “discovered” the high end ‘HIT’ cameras, in particular, the Tone....and I want to develop a really good system to get top quality paper Wet prints. Too many of my images are ending up as electrons and in Certain these will vanish at some point. Goal: tiny pocket camera I understand fully, virtually free film shooting, nice 3 1/2” square prints.

My problem is not making good resolutions, is not forgetting them after a few weeks 😱I
Anyway here I'm once again!

Make photo as usual, both digital and film, mainly B&W film. Finish my never ending projects.

More important print more, make books and zines and try to spread them around.

Here is my work in progress...hand made zine in limited edition...hope to finish in a few days...

Back in November, I figured out a project that should take about 5 years or so - at least that is the plan. I pretty much have the gear I need - Leica Screwmount plus the Primo Jr 127 - maybe just need to add another wide angle (25mm) lens.

I want to shoot just Portra and TriX this year...no more expired/mystery film!
I hope to minimize the "test" rolls and focus on my project---
I'm looking for things in our world that are disappearing AND appearing; recognizing that any photo is an instant record of a scene that will eventually disappear/change.

Interested in those that have self-published, printed, etc. It's been many years since I put a book together the old-fashioned way.

Whoa! A year and a half for a CLA. And counting.

May I suggest you resolve to never again use that vendor?

Newton Ellis in the UK, was recommended them on the forum. I did get quoted a price for a CLA and when I phoned about a year ago they were doing it and did say my camera ( which was my grandads) was in pretty bad shape. I'll phone them in the next few weeks and see what is going on. I'm in no rush.

On January 1, 2022 I resolved to stop buying cameras and I am doing well by it so far...

I've been slowly accumulating cameras since the 1960s but for the last two years, I've been adding heavily to my collection. I bought 40 cameras in 2020 and 25 in 2021 (quite a few were plastic promotional cameras that I collect but many were not.) In January 2021, I had never heard of a Barnack even though I had a Zorki 1 lurking in my Russian camera group. Now I have 10 and I think that is really enough. My Leicas, Canons, Tower, Zorki, and finally Shanghai and Kardon are doing a wonderful job taking 90% or more of my photos now. I shot and developed 150 rolls in 2021 and hope to continue but am slowing down as Covid has cut my travel and I keep revisiting the same places.

It's hard to keep resolutions when you are a collector and a shooter. But many of you already know that.

I'm going to try & stick to one film for a while. Too much bouncing around makes it difficult for me to get results I'm pleased with.

1. Get out for sunrise more often
2. Take less photos (nothing like getting home and having 20 perfectly identical frames)
3. Making myself acquainting with PS (layers, composites, frequency separation)
4. Get into better shape/range of motion/flexibility - between my knee pain and my cranky back I can't always get the photo that I want 🙁
