Well, to be fair, you could shoot all day with a RF (especially a film one) without realizing the lens was capped but to do the same with an SLR would be quite a feat unless you are a particularly 'challenged' individual.
What's kind of spooky about the shot of Mr Harper is he's smiling like he's comfortable looking at the back of the flash unit while faking he actually knows how to operate the camera.
I suggest don't be afraid, just ask.. "how do you use this one?" Someone will usually race to the rescue and help out. But no admission of lack of knowledge on his part. Ah well, we know how tough it is for a 'man at the top' to admit he doesn't know.
