I'd like to thank all those from whom I have learned, and with whom I have had stimulating debates, and to apologize to those whom I have inadvertently offended.

Unfortunately, many things that I see as lighthearted have been taken all too seriously by too many people and it's easier to quit than to try to figure out what are to me completely alien mind-sets.

I wish you all well and thank you once again.

Cheers,

Roger (www.rogerandfrances.com)

Roger,

It will be a great loss to the forum without your light hearted discussions. Maybe some people are not quite ready for it or understand that rather English dry humour.

I certainly will miss your highly educational posts compiled with years of experience. I'll now have to rely on that once weekly column in the Amatuer Photographer.

I hope you rejoin at some point.

Good luck and take good care.

Hello Roger,
What has upset you so much that you are going to leave us ?

I have enjoyed reading your slant on things photographic , whether i agreed or not with what you were saying was immaterial.

Your knowledge of Photography far surpasses what most of us know, and this Forum will be less interesting without your contributions .
Please reconsider.

Best Regards
Dennis Robins

Hope you come back soon Roger.
Something or more likely someone has certainly upset you. I think it's a great shame as your mentioning the forum in AP has brought in more members. You praised the friendliness of the forum in your column.
As said by others, your knowledge and experience is of a great advantage to the forum and you will be missed by many.

All the best to you Roger.

Paul

Roger,

If you're not going to figure out the alien mind-set anyway, you might as well stay 😀 Sometimes misunderstandings, particularly when related to humour on textual forums can be due to an insufficiency of smileys. Just a thought. Text is great for expressing facts and terrible for expressing emotions. Would be a shame to back out because of something as small as that.

I've only been here a few weeks and you've already helped me a lot. The forum needs opinionated experienced members to help inexperienced people like myself. We all know that no one answer is right, but an experienced answer is usually worth more than an inexperienced answer (well until the matter turns to art, where democracy rules imho).

Kind regards,

Simon.

Roger, I really wish you would reconsider. I always enjoy reading your stuff here on RRF. It would be a great loss if you leave. Thanks, Rick

Roger, I don't always agree with what you write but at least I get to read a differing opinion. I guess I know who and what you're talking about when you say:

Unfortunately, many things that I see as lighthearted have been taken all too seriously by too many people and it's easier to quit than to try to figure out what are to me completely alien mind-sets.

but if I were you I wouldn't take these people and comments too seriously.

Please, reconsider.

Roger,
I have had the same issues with other forums on the web and divorced myself from them. But , in the end, I think I lost more than I avoided. These forums are multi-cultural as well as widely diverse, and I cannot, or will not, be driven away by what I believe to be opposing mindsets. I choose to ignore them and I wish I had a button to block certain writers but they haven't taken my delete button yet. Please reconsider and consider the source of your irritation, we all lose when censorship, even self-censorship or non-participation, win.

Roger,

I understand exactly what you mean. Seems like where ever I go now there is always a few, invariably vocal, individuals who completely lack any ability to laugh at life or respect views and opinions contrary to their own. These people only seem to be happy attacking "less enlightened" individuals who don't subscribe to their particular views and beliefs. I greatly enjoyed and valued your contributions on the forum, whether or not I agreed with you, and believe that the majority of forum members would concur with me. However, like life in general, it has been those with a minority view and a loud voice that have been allowed, by the inaction of the silent majority, to force their agenda on us all.

Take comfort from the knowlege if you annoy these people then you must be doing something right!

All the best,

Jim.

Jim, that is a very wise observation.

If you run afoul of those people, it does no good even to attempt to reason with them. You just end up getting totally frustrated, which is what they want. It has happened to me too.

I was just getting used to you.

Rodger, as I stated before, you should stay. You lose more by leaving and we lose more by community growing a little more smaller. Nothing comes out better by you leaving.

I can't wait to see what Roger writes about RFF in next week's issue of Amateur Photographer!

Roger - for what it's worth from a fellow Englishman, take whatever has irritated you with the proverbial stiff upper lip. As far as I can see, there are far more people on RFF who appreciate your comments than take offence.

Best regards

Roger,

I'm relatively new here and have not been a very active poster in these forums, but I've read quite a lot. Your posts are definitely some of the most educational, as well as entertaining, in this place. An experienced oppinion is always good to read, even if you might disagree.

All the best

Does anybody remeber what this all came from? The last drop?
I just went through that thread.
It was a polite request to the newbees (perhaps including me too) to make some moderate selfcontroll on uploads and - if possible - for some technical details.
Roger found the latter unnecessary. Some others usefull.
Why couldn't this all stop here?
There are a lot of fields where the different way of thinking is absolutely acceptable.
Even more importants...
Sorry story at all...

Jorge, and backalley photo,

tell Roger to come back and play nicely, RFF is supposed to be recreational, we all love it and it's bigger than any one of us.

Roger, BEHAVE and play nicely, stop apologising and put up your three best / favorite pics so that we can constructively critisise them, instead of critising you !

FRANCES, tell roger to stop being truculent, and smack his legs if he won't behave.

All you other oldtimers (longstanding members) , Like FrankS and the rest of the foundation members vote yes if you agree with me !

Regards, John C.

Roger, I always welcome your comments even if I don't agree with them. We'd love to have you stay but if you feel you can't, I respect your decision and wish you the best.
