Oz film order from B&H

And there I was blaming Australia Post!

Now I need mailing addresses for everyone. Still checking on the size of people's bundles, but at least for a few I think an Express Post pre-paid satchel t $8.40 may be the go.

Sometimes I take B&H for granted.

never again :)

ground shipping from b&h takes a day to get to my place.. the b&h store is less than fifteen miles away from my city.

Wait... Three days to Australia?! I live in Philadelphia and USPS Priority takes Four days! WTF?! And when I was in Atlanta, it took 2 days. The U.S. mail annoys me.

I considered that a possibility. Even so, the USPS is backwards in that it got to me quicker in Atlanta than Philadelphia!

Fergus and Andrei - your film is in the post.

Thanks for that, Chris!

Last time I placed an order on a Saturday (i.e. Friday in the US) and received it the following Tuesday (in Brisbane).
It would probably take longer to order something in a local shop.

Hi, hopefully im not dragging this thread to far off topic but I have just purchased my first rangefinder camera and I was wondering if there are any bricks and mortar stores in Melbourne that have relatively cheap film compared to the online bulk prices. For the beginner such as myself, are the films that a stocked in shops good enough for starting out and in the case of this thread, are these films being bought online for their special or niche usages that I would not be able to appreciate as I am starting out?

Hi, and welcome to the forum!

In Melbourne you should find Kodak and Ilford films stocked in any serious camera shop. You will not find good film at cheap prices (ie comparable with US prices) in Australia. We buy from the US simply because the local retail price is two to three times the landed cost of film we import ourselves, even after the shipping cost is included. Even (or especially) as a beginner, you should buy good quality film that will give you reliable and consistent results.

I agree with Chris, for me it's also just about the price (e.g. Neopan 400 $2.69 form B&H, $10 in a local shop)

However, I've also learned here that there are indeed other special or niche usages, like the pleasure of "spreading it out on the floor and rolling in it" :D

Thanks for the advice guys, I'll develop my test roll tomorrow and just check to see my camera is in working condition. If successful I think I'll have to take a serious look at getting involved with the next order and trying some developing myself.

Until you can jump into one of our shared orders this Oz eBay seller has a good range of film at reasonable prices.

Interesting isn't it. I ordered from Freestyle (US) to the UK - they dispatched on 31st Jan and I received on Friday 11th Feb. Corollary: emigrate to Oz!

And I think everyone has received their film now! Thanks for joining in the order, and for paying quickly! :)
