I am visiting, once again, Berlin (my favourite city) next month. We will stay near Alex (last time was in Charlottenburg) and are looking forward to seeing sites in the former east. Any suggestions will be more than welcome;I missed so much on my last trip.. any possible meet-up with fellow RFF most welcome...John from Australia

It really depends on what kind of thing you want to see. A few weeks ago, a friend of mine came to visit and I basically took him to all the decent kebap shops/street food stands in the city and made sure he tried any and all varieties of German beer. We didn't even do much sightseeing, but still had a good time.
Then again, if you're interested in history, or classical art, I have loads of suggestions as well.

In Berlin,

In Berlin,

I mostly want to find "old Berlin", I believe that the area Prenalauer Berg still has many pre-war buildings. Last visit I saw much of Charlottenburg, so this time, its the east, I think. Oh and some German Bier might be good. Any tips appreciated :) John

On the first day, walk down Unter den Linden to the Brandenburg Gate, walk through that, turn left and walk to Potsdamer Platz. This route will take you right through the center of the city, with absolute boatloads of interesting sights in any direction. Take note of what interests you and check those out in detail.

One thing I've always loved about Berlin is the wide variety of architectural styles represented throughout the city. I would recommend checking out as many of the different buroughs as you can, making stops wherever you want to explore the surroundings. If you're staying near Alexander Platz, you will have easy access to whereever you want to go.

Concerning beer: Since you'll be in Germany, you'll find it is close to impossible to drink beer that isn't fantastic. Try to taste all the different kinds (Pils, Weizen, Bock, Export and so on) so you get a fairly broad view of what the country has to offer. Be careful to avoid beer that comes in green bottles.
If you have or develop any preferences, I can make more specific recommendations.

Also, will you be shooting film? I'm asking because there's a fairly decent shop near Alexanderplatz that I've been buying from for ages, so if you ever run out, you should pay a visit to Fotoimpex.

Thanks for the tips

Thanks for the tips

I've written that info down. I will be staying in Alex and shooting film. Did try some beer last time and it was good :) . Have been to Potzdammer Platz but will return - also want to see what happened to the Palace of the People - they were tearing it down last time I was there. Only twenty more sleeps!!
