I know what you mean. But you can always get one painted. This one is done with a crackle finish on the top and base plate, like the recent black canon L lenses.



And I second Steve's recommendation on the Canon Sonnar. A real pleasant little package.

That's pretty nice...who did it? My instinct would be to send it to Robert someday but I don't think he's gotten into Canons.

The Canon Sonnar would be nice, but I've already got a Zeiss one from the fifties that would be very hard to beat. I ordered the 1.4 so I could mess around with a fast compact Planar...

I traded off my mintish VI-L, and I got a second P in Black! The P is an awesome photography machine. I had to adjust the RF focus for the black P, and now both cameras RF agree.

This one is done by a Japanese painter, Shintaro. I don't think Robert does Canon RF bodies yet.

As for the Sonnar, since you have the real McCoy, there's no need for anything else. But the Canon 50mm f/1.4 is also another great lens for a low price.

I agree. I wouldn't have the heart to destroy a mint condition camera too. Restoring some less than perfect specimen to it's former glory or give it a fresh lease of life with a new coat of paint is still acceptable.

When you are looking at Canon Ps, don't overlook the L1, either, although they are much rarer. The warmish gold coated rangefinder patch is a hardier alternative. I think that most of the Ls have cloth shutters. I love mine.

I've got both. You are 100% right about the L1's RF, but the P's VF can be improved by the insertion of a rectangular piece of a yellow filter inside the RF front window too. Overall, the L1 has a cooler, retro look IMHO ('cause it is--mfg. in 1957).

I've discussed about this with my repair person and I'm planning to have it done next time my P will be serviced. He says the top plate must be removed first but it's not a difficult task.

Some people here installed blue tinted filter on their Nikon SP VFs. Blue is complementary colour for yellow (colour of the Canon P brightlines) so in a way it makes sense that blue tint would enhance VF contrast. I'd like to hear your opinions about this.

I actually prefer the clean look of the chrome... to each his own. But the P and a Canon 50/1.8 is a match made in heaven. Unless you happen to have the 28/3.5 and a turret viewfinder!
