can this be accomplished without disassembling the camera?
Nope--the top has to come off.

Seems like a good price to me.
Must be catching this lust thing. I'd had a seed of an idea of buying a Canon RF to go with my Canon LTM 50mm 1.4. I could never make my mind up which one I should go for until I started to read this thread. I did a search onlne and found myself offering £125 and winning a Canon P wthin about five minutes. So now I sit here waiting excitedly for the post.
I thought I had this GAS thing under control but clearly not.😀
I've discussed about this with my repair person and I'm planning to have it done next time my P will be serviced. He says the top plate must be removed first but it's not a difficult task.
Some people here installed blue tinted filter on their Nikon SP VFs. Blue is complementary colour for yellow (colour of the Canon P brightlines) so in a way it makes sense that blue tint would enhance VF contrast. I'd like to hear your opinions about this.
Theory dictates Cobalt Violet as the opposite of Yellow, assuming it’s a Cadmium type yellow, so it could be worth experimenting a bit.

If that was the one in Britain on eBay with the make offer option, I had it bookmarked...ended up getting mine from KEH here in the states, but that looked like a fine specimen. Enjoy. I'm glad the P is still affordable.
Mine should be waiting for me when I get home from work today--will report!
BTW, Yammerman, I love Wales. My wife's family is from Cardiff...we spent our tenth anniversary at Portmeirion. Sadly, before I owned a decent camera.
When we were at Portmeirion, it was pretty much 95% working class Brits on holiday and 5% Americans obsessed with The Prisoner (ie., us). My wife was shocked that all the young people speak Welsh now--last time she'd lived there they were just beginning to make it compulsory in school, and she spoke it better than a lot of natives. It's really very cool how it's returned! She said their Welsh was so slangy she didn't understand it anymore...
Well, it's a good job at least one person thinks it was a reasonable price, as it was me what bought it! 😀 I saw this one, it looked in superb shape for USD 300 with 1.8/50, and in a moment of 'P lust' as you called it (well, actually I've been considering this model for a year), I bought it via BIN. I wasn't going to muck about in the narrow range the seller had set between opening bid and BIN price, and risk losing the thing in an effort to save USD 5 or 10. (I'll forgo a few pints to compensate.) Now I eagerly await its arrival. Let lens lust begin!

Looks great, indeed, but "No Return?" That makes me think. I'd still bid, since the guy has a 100% approval rating, but ... makes one think. I'm just saying.
