I apologize if this has been discussed before or if it is in the wrong section...

I am planning to put up a lens for sale in the classifieds, but before i do, id like to know how you guys/gals pack and ship your lenses? I only have a cap for the front of the lens and not the rear. How would i protect the rear element? plastic wrap? Any pictures would be helpful of your packing process or advice on what to do and what not to do when shipping a lens for the first time..Thanks!

I think without a rear cap you need to pack it very carefully. Maybe wrap the lens in some very soft material which won't scratch it. Then wrap it in bubble wrap. Then of course place it in a box with more packing so that it won't move about in transit.
Out of interest what make is the lens because I'm sure you could get an aftermarket replacement rear cap for very little from an ebay seller which would make it easier for packing and may make it more attractive to buyers.

Bubble wrap rolled around it first around the barrel of the lens, and then from end to end should protect it well. Depending on how much the rear lens element is exposed, you might first wish to tape cardboard on the opening (if it doesn't touch glass), or perhaps even see if you have a medicine cap that will fit enough to protect things, and tape that or make sure the bubble wrap fits tightly enough to protect the lens.

Several wraps each way will give plenty of protection. Then as stated above, put it in a box in such a way that it can't move around. If the lens is really large, more bubble wrap or foam peanuts or both might be needed.
