this may be a touchy subject and falls under "trade secrets", but i wonder how you guys handle the Partner Approval Factor in fulfilling your GAS. i have succeeded with my story of not having enough photographs of my youth at least for the first few cameras. then, i made GAS appear like a life-threatening condition when i wanted the M6 and same with the G2. but how do you go about going for an upgrade to an M8 or a noctilux f/1 at least? and without feeling guilty with what is going on in africa or in southern philippines?:bang:

Well, I have a college education to pay for so I guess my limit comes as a matter of more personal immediacy. Even so, I have a simple rule, if it cost more than the value of my car I say no.

The possible best thing there is: NEVER brag about the prices if they're high, but make a real ruckus if they're below $100.

Looooong before getting into Leicas, I started a very modest collection of RF cameras. And I could act really miffed if a $50 camera wasn't up to snuff (for show purposes, let's make it clear). Of course, she never bothered about the cost of Leicas, although she imagined they were expensive.

One day, waay into my Leicahood, she went with me to a candy- er, camera store. You should have seen her eyes when she heard what the guys wanted for an old M3. I guess that's when she learned.

Fortunately, we're DINKs. Otherwise, I'd be in really hot soup! 🙂

😱 Someone gave me my current car. I doubt I'll be so lucky with cameras...

...Mike

I should keep buying because my car has 140,000 miles on it and I have no plans on replacing it for another 5 years. Pretty soon I will be kept to drug store disposables, or I will have to change the rule. 😀

my sister in USA just bought a canonet for me. she heard that i have been looking for it on ebay. she did not hear or failed to hear that i was also browsing and drooling for a noctilux!
oh well, i have resolved to put a limit to GAS. i can never imagine buying a camera that's going to be more expensive than a car. and, i have 3 kids and their education should not jeopardized by my GAS. (touche, rover!). i just hope my well-to-do sister can read this.
but i do like the canonet ql17 g3. i like pushing the envelope of even cheapos. i know i can learn a lot and really test what i've got with such a camera -- simple yet reliable. i won't ask her (my sister) to buy me a car, mike (mfunnel). just a noctilux is okay. this way, PAF becomes a non-issue. uh, mike, the someone who gave you a car, is he a philanthropist who has a heart for a filipino who has a bad case of GAS? (just kidding).
