All,

The Helen Leavitt and Leo Rubinfein show is nearly over at the Stanford Cantor Center for the Arts (Closes May 1st). I've seen it and it's a nice small show, worth seeing.

I was thinking, would anyone be up for a nice afternoon visit to the show (it's free) and then a Beer & Gear at the Oasis? Nothing like some beer and good burgers over photo equipment.

Saturday the 23rd or Sunday the 24th, maybe museum at 3, Beer & Gear at 5?

Thoughts?

I will unfortunately be in LA for the Long Beach Grand Prix so next weekend doesn't work for me personally. If many others prefer that date feel free to go for it.

I'm interested and can probably do either day.

So, who's in? Do we have critical mass or not?

I'm out. You keep picking the wrong weekends for me, Kent. :p I might try to see it this Sunday.

Uhhh, yeah, umm, it is the wrong weekend for me too. It has nothing to do with Kent being there. At all. Really. I might try to see it this Sunday too then!

Kent quietly ponders his hygiene. Could there be an issue I am unaware of? Halitosis, history teacher 'pit staining, something else/worse???

or

Could it be I am just so darn fun to be around that it can only be experienced in small and infrequent doses. Sometimes there can be an overload of the senses when one is in the presence of such wit, charm and outrageous intelligence.

or

Maybe it's just a bad weekend for people. Nah, can't be that!

Go have fun and see the show whenever you can, it's small but good. The film that is shown, made by Leavitt in the 30's or 40's, is really a neat timepiece showing everyday life for some New Yorkers in that period.

whoops can't make it to the city this weekend for the other meet up suggested... i'll catch you guys at the next one!

Mike, if you go and you want some company (my hygiene is slightly better than Kent's--or so I've been told. ;)), let me know. I'll try to meet up with you. Maybe we can coax Roland out into the daylight, too.

We can try, but I know some engineers who fear sunlight. Ray, I'll call or send an email towards the end of the week.

P.S. I was checking out a motorcycle the other day, and the boss lady asked, "Have you been talking to Ray and Roland again?" She's on to you two....;)

I wasn't sure if 'doses' was the word you were looking for, so I looked up the informal use in my computer dictionary (Mac)-

Dose:

informal a venereal infection.
informal a quantity of something regarded as analogous to medicine in being necessary but unpleasant

Looks like you used it correctly. Nice work Ken!

I can't make it this weekend, either. I don't want a venereal infection

I really like the idea of a Palo Alto meet-up, though. I haven't been down there in years. Anything happening in May?

I highly recommend the Ferit Kuyas show at Gallery 291. It ends this Saturday (April 23).

Bummer for those of you who are going to miss the Leavitt show, she's interesting. I highly recommend viewing her work if it makes it's way to these parts again. I didn't know she spent about a year with HCB...you can see it a bit in her work (some of it, certainly not all of it).

I'll peek around and see if there's something interesting in Palo Alto during May.

Soooo just a suggestion, but would it be possible for the thread originator to put the final time/place in the first post once it's decided? That way people don't need to keep track of which day was chosen or read through the entire thread to figure it out (like I'm trying to do right now).

Sunday the 24th right? What time again?
