Is this the perfect street combo we have been waiting for ?

Panasonic DMC-GF1 Micro 4/3 camera
DMW-LVF1 NEW Electronic Viewfinder

Lumix G 20mm f1.7 Lens (40mm FF equivalent)
Panasonic Leica 45mm f2.8 Macro Lens with OIS (90mm FF equivalent)

I don't know about you, but I am quite excited. With this combo + some good b/w conversion plugins (likeSilver Efex Pro), one can create stunning streetshots. What do you think ?

I am sure, there will also be an overpriced Leica-equivalent...

"But very clumsy compared to the G1."

That is true. I really think the G1 is more what I'm looking for; but, there are a lot of choices right now. Sigh.

Could this be the much rumored "M9"? It seems much more likely that a re-badged Panny- cam is the subject of all this bally-hoo. DPreview's reprint of the press release does mention "compatible with M and R lenses with XXX adapters."

It's missing one crucial component(for me anyway) and that is Image stabilization. The M mount lenses I have that are of a useful focal length are just too slow and therefore limiting. It really needs the IS to compensate for that. I think we are one or two cameras away from what will be a fantastic setup. I will wait for the EP-2 which I hope has the faster AF, better LCD and a better viewfinder... But I have to admit I like the direction this is going..

Here's a copy from Panasonic's website; looks like Leica is on the u4/3 bandwagon, at least with lenses; could this foretell a Leica u4/3 variant of the GF-1? The link.

All LUMIX G lenses comply with the Micro Four Thirds System standard for digital interchangeable lens system cameras. Even with their extremely small size, these high-performance lenses reflect Panasonic's advanced optical technologies, such as the MEGA O.I.S. (Optical Image Stabilizer) system and a design that minimizes wide-angle distortion to further improve optical performance. The LEICA DG MACRO-ELMARIT 45mm / F2.8 ASPH. / MEGA O.I.S., which complies with the Micro Four Thirds System standard, has also been newly developed. Characterized by their compact size and light weight, these lenses bring out the full capabilities of the 4/3 image sensor, and support the Contrast AF function of the DMC-GF1.
* MEGA O.I.S. is not available on the LUMIX G 20mm / F1.7 ASPH. and the LUMIX G VARIO 7-14mm / F4.0 ASPH.

I am waiting for Olympus to release EP-2 by years end the rumours say. Will include VF in a camera as gorgeous as EP-1 they are saying. Was going to buy GF1 but think I will for once, wait.
