Is this a digital rangefinder or a DSLR? Anybody have any experience with either?

It is a crappy DSLR combining the worst of all brands, namely dim Olympus sideways mirror, noisy Panasonic CCD and budget Leica optics (which disgrace the brand name IMHO).

It looks like an RF but is a DSLR with a porro mirror system and live view on the LCD screen as well as traditionally placed camera controls (aperture ring, shutter speed dial).
Amateur Photographer tested the three versions of this camera recently. Olympus came out ahead, and is about half of the cost of the other two in the UK. Sadly it does not have the traditional control layout.

i have "fondled" one... the panasonic in particulair, and it would be a frosty day in you know where before i'd be plonkin' down the dough for one of those. the viewfinder is inexcuseable, the construction cheap and the lack of fast primes is shortsighted.
it certainly may look familiar from afar to some of us rf users yet up close it's a diffferent beast. i had some high hopes for the camera's in question, yet after some research and actually trying one out i'll keep waiting.

I think these are built on the 4/3 sensor system. I remember reading that Carl Zeiss is building lenses for this mount. I too was not impressed with the current offering. But then I'm not a big fan of digital imaging.
It seems each manufacturer offers a basic arrary of lenses and thrid party manufacturers are offering a more expanded selection. It may be that it's just too early to buy into this system and maybe quality will improve two or more versions in the future.

I have the 4/3's Olympus version, e-330. The camera handles well; the photos are first rate; live view is very handy; Olympus optics are second to none. You can use any legacy slr lenses from any manufacturer with the proper adaptor. It's a DSLR unlike any other. The pany/leica versions share the same mount and lightbox so they should be as good as the Oly with similar optics. I haven't tried the Leica D3 lens but it's supposed to be very good and it has image stabilization. This spring Leica is coming out with a 25/1.4 lens for the system while Sigma is already making a 30/1.4.
