Nice looking camera. I like the zoom range and the fast aperture. Too bad it does not use the whole m43 sensor. If I didn't already have a gx7, I would consider this or the new gm5.

The LX100 plus the wealth of 1" offerings equals bad news for Fuji's X30.

Only time will tell.. But given the other camera choices especially the lx100 which seems to squarely aimed at both rx100v3, canon g1x and the Fuji x30.. I also think x30 sales are not going to do well.

I would not think so.. The dp review format example looks like they are going to intentional leave the other 4mp out. Could be an image circle related design issue --> lens size vs max aperture for all we know..

If I remember correctly , my old lx3 had a similar design.

Don't think so. I believe it isn't using the whole sensor to allow for different aspect ratios and also (I presume) to allow for a smaller/better lens specification.

Definitely does not use the full sensor area. Effective resolution is about 13MP vs. the 16MP of the actual sensor. I'm sure that helps keep the lens size down too 🙂

Yes. Their 12-32 zoom for the 4/3's GM5 is a lot slower too !
The trade-offs and compromises never end.

Interesting. My mind's eye had this camera much bigger, which I liked. Knowing now that is the same general size bracket of my RX, but bigger -well, that is something different and now I am not so sure. Does that make sense?

Gx7 is bigger.. That was the main reason I bought it over the gm1. The lx100 intrigues me because of the fast aperture zoom. But I have the gx7 w/ the 12-32 which to me is a good compromise. It is too bad that the 12-32 zoom is never offered in the gx7 kit.

I really like what I c from both these videos. I think Panasonic hit one out of the park w/ this lx100. They have the retro Fuji control setup.

I missed this when it was announced - I haven't been paying much attention to equipment due to burnout.

I've been somewhat disillusioned by my kit lately with one exception - my X100s. I've been using a NEX7 for a few years with several primes.

Having a RF-styled camera with a fastish short range zoom and real knobs and dials in the appropriate places could be a great NEX replacement for me. One of these might just tide me over until Fuji comes to their senses and makes an M mount full frame X body.

A few images i have seen are ok, but its never the same until you use it your way...looks promising though.
The internet is full of digital geeks who continually go on about sharpness, pixels and then goes down the proverbial physics, algebra and total math equation on how the sensor works.

I bought one for my wife and myself as a travel camera. It's a nice little shooter. Here's a couple of initial thoughts:
-It fits well in my hands, even though I'm used to film rangefinders.
-The focus is very fast.
-The zoom is very slow. It zooms via an internal motor. It's OK for me because again I'm used to film rangefinders and tend to zoom with my feet. It does annoy the wife though.
-All controls except the AF location are easy to access. The AF point isn't such a deal breaker as I'm more of a focus-keep half pressed-recompose guy.
-The IA shoot button is too easily hit. It basically turns the camera into a complete point and shoot. It's not reprogrammable. I hope they change this in with a firmware update.
-The fast aperture is really nice. It keeps the ISOs down and allows for shallow DOF. I haven't pushed the ISO too far yet, but 800 is just fine. I've been shooting in JPG, and the colors look good right out of the camera.
-The lens is very sharp. Distortion isn't noticeable for travel photos. I'll have to find some interesting brick walls.
-The lens takes a little time to extend when the camera is turned on, and it does stick out some.
-I've only done two quick 4K video tests, but they look great.
