The LX5 arrived Tuesday, but I haven't had much time to check it out. Based on the 2 or 3 snapshots at work I think I am going to enjoy using this camera.

The LX5 has turned to be a real gem! Here is one of my recent shots.

Having already had the LX-5 experience, I was looking for a lightweight camera to accompany me on the bike and everywhere. My D600 is just too bulky for spontaneous situations. Today, I ordered an LX-7 based upon my prior experience. It was just under $300. Of course, I had to pay an additional $180 to get the EVF viewfinder, an absolute necessity for me.

All of this series of Panasonic compact cameras are great. Small sensor yes, but not small in terms of performance. I own the LX3 and if anything the LX5 is better. I bought the LX3 in similar circumstances in that the LX5 had just come out and so it was a bargain. Grab it and use it with pleasure. As it is a small sensor camera keep ISO below 800 and you will find it produces wonderful results. Here is a review of the camera in a Singapore based photo forum.

I love the LX5, enough so that I stoped shooting a DSLR. The camera powers up quickly, the focus speed is decent, and it simply takes wonderful photos. I got the optical viewfinder rather than the EVF, though in Japan the optical finders cost about 25% mre than the EVF. My girlfriend loved my LX5 enough that she bought one for herself.
I am interested in the LX7, but I will keep using my LX5 until it quits on me. If that day is a long time in coming, I won't mind at all.

There's a separate thread on the LX7. The photos posted there are very impressive. And the camera is, I think, still available on Amazon for under $300.

LX7 is on sale for $329 at B&H, but it's a kit. I'm trying my best to not click on it.
