with fine grained film, I would not use a fine grain film the developer like Microdol X etc.
use a less sulphited mix like d76 1:3 or Rodinal at a high dilution ,
for accutance and shadow detail.
Our own Bill Pierce is THE man to talk to about this,
i still remember his excellent article in the Nuts n' Bolts column about this subject from around Oct. of 77 or 78 if I am not mistaken, in Popular Photography magazine.
I wish I still had a copy of that article that Bill wrote.
Where are you Bill Pierce ?

I think I have one roll of ACROS kicking around, and I have Microdol-X and Perceptol too...

I'm curious as to what developer to use for Panatomic X as I have 2 expired rolls sitting in my fridge? I'm waiting for the right time/place to use it.
