I was so close of getting the Oly Pen, now I'm reconsidering this Pany, possibly will debut by the Dec

Those 3d mockups were done by fans, not by panasonic, and are actually quite old. Just so you know.
I personally can't see panasonic coming up with anything that exciting - the G1 is a good camera but it's very "safe".

To be fair, this is the first I've seen the "GL1" at the top of the link. That seems like a pretty credible model number as well, all things considered, and it looks like a good mate for the 20mm 1.7 lens if it is real. There will be a new LX model, and I'd bet it will be the LX5 (not the LX4... Japanese companies usually skip model number 4 out of superstitions akin to Western [or is it American?] assumptions about the number 13), but that camera will almost certainly be fixed-lens.

I also think that if I were Panasonic and had an E-P1 competitor in the works, I'd leak as much as I could to encourage folks to wait for their model.

Can anyone read the text on that site and see what it is they're saying?
 
Guess I'm just going to have to be satisfied with the LX3 coming on Monday :)

That said, if Panasonic were to build this camera I would seriously consider it, though I have not yet felt compelled to jump on the EP-1.

FWIW the avoidance by the Japanese of using the number 4: it was explained to me that "shi" for "four" is a homophone for the character for "death" - which is why they count "yon" for "four." Dirk, Jon, Gabor, others?
 
Well, it's a render, but it seems to be the camera which we're all waiting for...

So how about making it happen, huh? HUH?!?!?
 
Agreed- the DMC-L1 is terrific. I bought one a few months ago and the photos are terrific. I love the aperture dial on the lens and shutter speed dial. My today's standards the DMC-L1 is big and bulky and has a dark viewfinder. But it is still a terrific camera.
 
Well, they were interesting in the short time that they might have been real. But once again, just someone's imagination at work. Interesting work, however.
 
I may be the only person that actually doesn't want some cheesy little pop up flash taking up space on my compact digital and adding something to the list of things that can break.

No kidding. Just about zero RF shooters here would put or want a flash on an RF. But the RF-like digital (with noiseless performance at one million ISO) they cry for must have a silly pop-up flash. What's up with that?

Totally. BS, is what's up with that. People hear other people complaining about it and figure it's one more thing they can put on their snooty list of reasons why they'd never buy camera XYZ.

Even if, of course, in the real world they'd never deign to use a flash, much less an onboard flash.

I sort of like the commentary, though, because I've realized it's a convenient way to sift out the obvious malcontents, asses, and trolls from the people with an honest opinion.

Well the thing about the flash is... looking back at stupid little compact digitals I've been in control of through the years, I can't think of one on board flash picture that I've ever liked. Ever. In fact I could even extend that to built in flashes on DSLRs. They make the photo look like crap.

I was actually stoked that the e-p1 came without a flash. The ISO performance is good enough at 1600-3200 and it has good IS, it's not like it's impossible to take a photo in dark conditions with it.
 
I totally agree, Gavin. The e-p1 not having a flash is a plus for me, although for the less experienced, I could see it being a deal breaker.

I'd rather it did have a discreet flash, mainly for when friends want to use the camera. I've come to expect little digicams to have a full auto mode for such occasions.

On the other hand, it does have face recognition, so it's odd it doesn't have flash. I expect soon we'll have soft porn recognition which will automatically diffuse the background...

Absolutely agreed. I have never seen a photo taken with onboard flash, unless you stretch "onboard" to include old flash guns that got it a good foot or more away from the lens, that was worth the time it took to take.
