Thank you for posting this. I had not heard of him but like his work very much.

Funny thing to me is, I'm very drawn to this aesthetic for its expressive quality, yet it's not an approach I could take personally. Too dark, heavy, almost nihilistic. Yet I really enjoy it. Go figure.

Yeah, pretty dark stuff in that catalog.

Paolo Nozolino: Loaded Shine

Taken between 2008 and 2013 in New York, Lisbon, Paris, Berlin and in the French and Portuguese countryside, and shot on 35mm, these photographs by Paulo Nozolino (born 1955) depict a world in a state of perpetual decay.

One of my absolute favorites. You can actually feel his work. I have 3 of his books. Far Cry is wonderful. Penumbra would be my second choice. Loaded shine did not impress me as much overall but there are some real gems of individual images. He’s all film. I’ve read he used a v2 or v3 35mm cron and shoots tri-x with Rodinal because he loves grain and has no issue obliterating shadow details into inky black. Shoots very little, maybe 30 rolls a year or less if I remember correctly. There’s an excellent video on YouTube that he is being interviewed along with a Spanish photographer and he talks about his philosophy.
