Hi,

I want to purchase a Leica model A. The one I'm looking at has an early serial number, early enough to have the "mushroom" shutter release. The item, however, has the threaded release so it must have been updated by Leica at some time. Can this item be returned to its original condition? Does anyone know where there may be parts or who might do this?

If it has a threaded shutter button most likely it is a Russian fake. Leica did not use threaded buttons on any of the screwmount Leicas.

I'm confused by this thread. Both my IIIa and IIIf have a threaded "collar" around the release, which is solid, with an offset dot so that rotation is easily seen. True, the button is not threaded for a standard cable release, but a special cable can be attached to the threads after removing the collar. Can you describe the original release on the A?

I finally found a photo of a Leica A, which shows what appears to be a threaded ring beneath the exposed button. This the same arrangement used on the later LTM cameras, with the exception that the thread was usually covered by a threaded ring.
