Hi, I just encountered a password-protected user gallery and am wondering - what is the purpose of having them?

I've wondered this too. One time I saw a thumbnail in the random pics when those were on the main page to the site. When I clicked on it I was asked for a password to view that image. I then tried to look at the user's member gallery and was prompted for a password. That was the only time I encountered that and did not make an issue of it.

Later,
Greg

In my not so humble opinion, passwording an image or gallery where a thumbnail or preview is shown in public is very rude. :(

I believe there is a disconnect regarding the random image display. A user can choose to upload photographs to a private gallery for whatever reason they may have, the glitch in my eye is that those images should not eligible for random display. Having a private gallery is an option, I see no problem with that as long as it is OK with Jorge to provide that option. It should be understood though that those images may pop up and be randomly displayed.

The passowrd protection is only for the Contest Gallery. This is to hide it until the winner is chosen.

As an individuakl you can password protect your albums if you like.

I was curious, more than anything. But it's not the most pleasant thing to see an interesting thumbnail, click on it, only to be presented with a "door closed" screen. Not a big deal though - there are more than enough open-view images to see in the gallery :)

Andy, in the past I have sent a PM to a member asking the password to their gallery complimenting his photographs.

The member in this case was more than happy to share.
