Gents and Ladies,
Forgive the potentially moronic question, I'm quite new to Paypal.
So I sold a violin bow on Eprey, to an Italian person. There was a bit of a delay in his contacting me, although I contacted him. Finally we did establish communication, and he eventually sent payment to the email address that I had set up with Ebay for emails, rather than my Paypal email.
After I politely told him that it was the wrong address, he sent payment to the right address this afternoon, and Ebay now marks the item as paid.
The money also shows up in my paypal account, but it says that the buyer is "uncertified" or some such.
Perhaps I'm just gun-shy because of all the horror stories I've heard, but do I need to wait for the payment to "clear" somehow, or is it now completely as clear as it could possibly be?
Should I transfer the money to my bank account before shipment, or is it perfectly legit in Paypal?
Once again, sorry for the dumb questions, I just don't like being ripped off. I'd like to send the bow off before the weekend, but if I have to wait, I will do so.
Cheers

Bobo - my understanding of it is that unverified means that the person has not gone through the complete process of proving they are who they say they are - that the account (bank or credit card) that they are drawing the funds from is actually their own. If I remember correctly PP makes a couple of small deposits into your account and you need to contact them and tell them the exact amount of the deposit - which I guess to them proves you own the account. So...not sure how that would effect your situation - seems that if the $ is in your account all is well ? Hope this helps, sure more informed people will be along shortly.

Just re read my post and actually, not being able to prove you own the account does sound pretty fishy...

Ok If you are shipping outside the US or Canada do not ship it with out insurance and a tracking number from USPS or UPS. If the buyer claims he did not recive it paypal will side with the buyer unless you can prove it was shipped (vaid tracking number) I learned this the hard way with two items shipped to spain. Paypal will send your account into the neg balance if they refund the buyer and there is insuficant funds in the account to cover the refund. Unverifed can also mean the buyer is not set up with a preimer account or has not used paypal before. John

thanks boys,
I am aware of the insurance thing, I've shipped overseas before. It's just all the confusion with Ebay and Paypal that had me skittish.
Cheers.

As far as I know, once the money is in your account at Paypal, then it is "paid for". Unverified simply means.. well, what the others have said. It is not necessarily a bad thing, or suspicious at all, if a buyer is "unverified". There are lots of good reasons why someone might be so. At any rate, if I were you, I'd try to transfer the Paypal funds off to your bank ASAP.
Good luck and I hope it all goes well.
