Though the main character in the movie definitely uses the canonet, I remember watching a feature about the movie (a very interesting feature that I think might be on the dvd somewhere) where the guy who actually took the photographs seen in the movie, the large black and white prints in the gallery, talks about the photography in the film, the look John Waters wanted, and also points out that the photographs in the movie were ultimately created with a variety of cameras and techniques, some of which definitely were not from Canonets. I really wish I could see that featurette again to find out what kind of cameras were used.
