Pentax 645N batteries?

Anyone know if you can use NiMH rechargeable AA cells in the 645N?

The manual only specifies alkaline or lithium but I wonder if that's because of when it was written. I know the life of lithium AAs in this camera is supposed to be pretty good but I like to use rechargeables wherever possible; on the other hand the voltage is a lot lower (7.2V vs. 9V) so maybe that's a legitimate issue... anyone tried this?

My 645N ran happily on Enerloops for a couple of years (it succumbed to an unrelated injury after that); the 645 that replaced it has been doing just fine on the same diet.
