Pentax 67 Gas!

My 67II + 105 2.4 arrived on Monday. Shot a test roll of Portra 160 with my wife and ever-willing portrait subject. I'm already smitten with this thing. Five or six solid keepers from that first roll.

Alan, is that with the 105mm? I have some E-tubes but have never tried them with a portrait.

If you keep the face a bit more sideways to the lens, the distortion will be less visible. Nice rendering !

Can anyone else believe how incredibly inexpensive the 67 lenses are?

Its really amazing. I am selling 4 lenses on the website that shall not be named and I just can't believe the quality per dollar you get out of those lenses.

For cryin in the petunias, the 75mm F4 can go for under $100. Granted it's not a fast lens, but sharp as all get-out. The 105mm F2.4 isn't the sharpest, but it's one of the fastest medium format lenses out there (I think I've seen some F2 645 and F2 6x6 lenses but nothing this fast in 6x7). And the 105 can be had for a pittance.

I just utterly love the P67 and the whole system. It's performed phenomenally for me. I bought one, fell in love and told myself I would buy a Mamiya 7. Then I ended up seeing an amazing P67 and lenses deal on craigslist that I couldn't pass up. After using it and deepening my love for it, I'm selling it to fund a GW690 Fuji and a bunch of film. I keep thinking the 690 will be better for travel and I want to see those 6x9 negs. But I'll always remember the 67 and when I have a bigger budget to accommodate one, I'll be back for another.

great fotos. When I need a little inspiration, I like to tune in to this thread. The P67 creates in-focus and OOF images like none other than I've seen.

Yes, the P67 is a very underrated system and mighty high bang for the buck setup. Sharpness wise the P67 lenses aren't the super sharp like some Mamiya or Fujinon lenses, but on average are around on par with most Hasselblad "legendary" 500-series system lenses while they cost peanuts in comparison and you can always crop to 6x6 if you need to. Most of all the Pentax 67 doesn't break down mechanically as easy, built truly like a tank and a true workhorse purpose in mind.

Normally those kind of workhorse-purpose systems (ie. later Nikon F-series, most pro-DSLRs etc) built to shoot a lot aren't very inspiring to work with but what's incredible about the Pentax 67 beast it that somehow keeps me inspired all the time, it's a simple tool but something in how it all works together - every time I grab it and just keeps spitting out keeper and winner shots.

I respectfully submit that you in particular could keep spitting out keeper and winner shots even using a beer bottle in front of a box of film. A brown beer bottle. With the beer still in.

Cheap or not, the Pentax 6x7-67 system is the only camera and lenses that make me believe that equipment is important. All other cameras to me are just tools and any make can fill the need. So I buy cameras for ergonomics, or for lack of features. The 6x7 isn't ergonomic (or light, or small), but it does fit my lack of feature criterion.

I, also, wonder about the feeling that the 105mm is inferior. I don't see it.

Something a little different. Shooting 35mm in the 6x7 using a panoramic kit and 55/4 lens.

I used the viewfinder mask only and scanned it with the 120 holder on the V700. That allowed me to capture and scan the sprocket holes.
