Pentax 67 Gas!

I got trapped by this thread and now own a Pentax 67 MLU w/90mm f2.8. I really want to get the 45mm f4 and a 105 f2.4 (just because of the reputation and images I've seen). I REALLY did not need another system, but these images and me missing my old Mamiya 7ii brought me back. Heading to Moab in a few weeks, so that might be the perfect time to try it out.

Congrats, and welcome to the 67 club! This thread isn't called Pentax 67 Gas! for nothing. 😉 The 90mm f/2.8 is a decent performer, I used it before I got the 105/2.4. I have some samples in this Flickr album, most already posted up thread. I have the older leaf shutter version. Wide open, it can sometimes exhibit bokeh with a slight swirl. Not Helios 44-2 level, but it's definitely there.

Anyway, have a great time in Moab, and share some big negatives when you get back.

I'm yet another victim to succumb to the call of the Monster Pentax. I've wanted to try one out for many years now but always put it off. Wound up acquiring a 67II and 105mm in a trade so I'm going to be giving it a whirl!

If I wind up bonding with the camera I will decide on what lens(es) I will be adding to the system. My instinct is to say either 45 or 55mm but there's some interest too in the 75mm f/4.5.

I've been browsing this thread casually for years now so I hope I can do it some justice and share some work once I start shooting.

I doubt I'd look into any of the longer lenses as that's not typically what I shoot, but what do you guys wind up favoring?

The 75mm f/2.8 seems to be made of unobtainium with an incredibly high price to match. I've read various reviews and I've seen various charts that claim "lens X is the best" but I'm curious to hear if you all have any favorites that you've experienced over the years. I'm definitely NOT going to go out and buy a whole bunch of glass for this thing, but I would say I'd be interested in 2-3 maximum.

I enjoy the 105 a lot - use it with a P67. You can always add a +1 close-up lens (67mm) if at times the close focus range is not enough for you.

Well, you have the 105mm, which would not be my choice, but that is #1. The last or next earlier version of the 55mm 4.0 (#2) is a "must have". It equates to about a 28-30mm in 35mm format, and is considered one of the finest lenses in the P67 lineup. I find the 45mm too wide to get much use. For #3, either the 75mm 4.5 if you do mostly landscapes, or the 165mm 2.8 if you want a "walking around" lens. The 55mm is a bit more costly than average, but the 75mm and 165mm lenses are some of the least expensive. I presently own most of the P67 lens selection; I shoot mainly landscapes; my 55mm, 90mm, and 75mm represent 80% of my usage.

I love the 135mm f/4.0. It sports the famous Heliar lens formula of Voigtländer fame and renders very nicely for portrait at F/4.0 or F/5.6, with moderate contrast and buttery smooth bokeh (some nice portraits here). At f/11, contrast increases and sharpness is very good over the whole field, making it perfectly suitable for landscape work. Thanks to the Heliar formula, the lens is almost free from chromatice aberrations.

For a wider view, the Pentax 67 55mm F/4.0 (the last version of the 55mm lens) is the one to get, as stated by Randy.

55/4 and 135/4 lenses are complementary and make a nice lightweight kit (as far as P6x7 equipment can be considered light!), suitable for travels. It's also a very versatile kit as both lenses focus quite close (35cm for the 55 lens and 75cm for the 135 lens).
