dourbalister - I was wondering if you have decided to standardize on Ilford XP2 now that it seems that Ultrafine 400 is no more? I really admire what you have done with the UF - no mushy midtones, nice and bright highlights and solid blacks.

Thank you for the kind words, DaveW! This was a first experiment for me, and a somewhat failed one at that. Seeing some really good results from fellow RFF member chrism, I thought I would try cross-processing XP2 in B&W chemistry. Unfortunately, a lot of this first roll came out extremely thin, so more testing is in order.
As far as Ultrafine eXtreme 400, I'll probably go with HP5+ for 120. For 135, I'm shooting through a bulk roll of Kentmere Pan 400 as a potential alternative.

can anyone recommend a technician in the US for the older 6x7 non-MLU camera? eric hendrickson is the guru i know but his website says a CLA for this version of the camera is an eye watering $400. i think i would rather just sell my lenses at that point and trash the camera.
That may sound steep, but... I think it's a mistake to link the current market value with the cost of service. If it's worth using, IMO it's worth fixing.
I have a non-MLU 6x7 that I bought used in 1976 and had it serviced at Camera Techs, a local Seattle shop, in 2001. My notes:
4/26/01 Took it to Camera Techs. The foam around the focusing screen was visibly deteriorated allowing the prism to move/rattle up & down. Check also found meter underexposing by 2/3 stop, and shutter speeds off (1000 = 2000, 500 = 1000 or so, and 250 = about 400), recommend rebuild body and calibrate meter. They did so, going over everything, calibrating meter & shutter speeds, cleaned completely, replaced foam & seals. $303.55. I believe it had never had these kinds of service before.
There's been some inflation in the past 20 years since then, so maybe $400 isn't out of line now, though a simple CLA would be less invasive. I'd think there might be a shop in LA that can service it for you.

Look what those Pentax bodys will cost in another 5 years. There is a constant grow in demand for hi-end medium format gear.
Plaubel Makina, Mamiya 6 and 7, even Super Ikontas, Pentax 67, Mamiya TLR, Rolleiflex, Bronica RF, Fuji 645 models, Fujica 670 and 690, Mamiya RB67 and RZ67, all have substantially gone up in the last few years.
Better have it serviced now before CLA prices rise!

thanks. i live in georgia now but i could probably give bill moretz a call sometime and ask him. it is the earliest and oldest version of the camera body so im a bit wary of paying more than its worth to have it fixed. plus parts and shipping it could run 500 even maybe from eric. might as well find a cla’d mlu at that point for a bit more?

I have a MLU and I've lost some frames due to the mirror locking up in the bag. I'd have that switch disabled, I never use it anyway... just my 2cents

Nippon Photo Clinic in NYC might be another option. Not sure they will be cheaper though.
