Pentax 67 Gas!

^ Well that's perfectly understandable , so what is about the 67 you prefer over the 67ii that's supposed to have numerous improvements, (and boy do they charge for those ) .
I've spent way too much time lusting after the 67ii , even though I own a Mamiya 7 .

The strap lugs are the biggest reason I prefer the 67 over the 67II.
The 67II only has 2 lugs on the one side, which means you can't use the waist level finder and let the weight of the camera rest on a neck strap. Nowadays I mostly shoot from a tripod, but for the previous 6 years, most of the shooting I did with the 67 was handheld with the WLF and a neck strap.
The 67II Limited added a lug to the grip, but those cameras are way expensive.

Interesting. I used the WLV a lot on my 67 (the prism is very heavy). But I rarely used it without holding it up to my eye. Do you compose the image and focus without bringing it to your eye? If you did, then it seems to me it wouldn't matter if the strap lugs made the camera hang vertically.

Interesting. I used the WLV a lot on my 67 (the prism is very heavy). But I rarely used it without holding it up to my eye. Do you compose the image and focus without bringing it to your eye? If you did, then it seems to me it wouldn't matter if the strap lugs made the camera hang vertically.

Because of my health (ALS), I haven't been able to lift my 67 up anywhere near my eye for over 5 years. I just let it rest on the strap and then focus and compose from there. The top strap lugs were/are pretty important to me.

I have the original 6x7, and like you it is my best camera. This is exactly why I like this camera. Great Portrait! I won't buy a newer one because I had it CLA'd by you know who. It is working perfectly, but if it fails I get a new body.

Thanks! For me, this is why the newer 67ii is great - auto exposure! No need to fiddle with the shutter dial trying to get your exposure right as the moment passes. Much more spontaneous and in the moment. Other subjects of course don't need that 🙂.

Recently I had my Pentax 67 II serviced. The film advance was loose, and the shutter release was also loose. The film transport got overhauled, and the shutter release switch was replaced. $300.00 plus tax at Nippon Photo Clinic here in NYC. This is a pro shop in NYC, but it has such a Japanese vibe.

So now the camera is very much like new.

The Pentax 67 II has 6 segment TTL metering. I have the AFZ 500 most powerful dedicated flash, the hot shoe grip with required "Z" cable, and AE prism. The dedicated TTL flash is deadly accurate. I ended up selling all my glass except the 75/2.8 AL because all the other glass went unused. What a great-great rig.

The P67 system has quite a bit of appreciation within the film community; the P67II, along with mamiya M's, have risen value quite a bit.

AE on the P67II makes it seem a very nice and convenient travel camera... but not light or compact!

The AE Prism on a Pentax 67 II is deadly accurate. I shot Fuji Velvia 50 in 220 at night to cover NYC Fashion Night Out. Basically I was shooting one of the most unforgiving slow speed films and compounding the difficulies by shooting at night with a flash. So basically I am on Fifth Avenue blinding people with the most powerful flash ever built for the Pentax system, and I got perfect results.

While the 105/2.4 is about a 50 FOV, the 75/2.8 AL is allegedly an ASPH lens and it is about a 35mm FOV. A very-very useful lens. Still wide open and close focused the DOF is mucho shallow.

In use without the grip and flash the Pentax 67II with 75/2.8 AL weighs 5 1/4 pounds. It is actually lighter in weight than the earlier P67's. Also a lot lighter than a baby Linhof by more than two pounds. Perhaps comparable to a Fuji Texas Leica in weight.

To me having TTL flash capabilities is a very valuable asset. The 75/2.8 AL is flexible enough as not to need other lenses.
