Well-known
True but irrelevant with regard to using manual-focus lenses on modern dSLR cameras. The issue affects them, does it not? I'm not an expert on Nikon cameras, so perhaps I am incorrect.
"Fun to collect" and "easy to use" are often two entirely different issues. I like both, but they don't often coincide.
Actually you're partly right. All AI onwards lenses can be used on all AI onwards cameras with different functionality (very like the K mount saga). So MF lenses from this era are usable on all AF bodies. The only thing that stops pre AI lenses being used is the non foldable AI tab or 'min aperture detect' tab on some AF cameras. They can be used on F4s and modified (Nikon does this) F5 and F6 bodies. By luck they can also be used on D40 series bodies as their 'min aperture detect' tab folds away.
Anyway we're digressing from 'M42 on DSLR'. 😱 Sorry !
Oh, I do use some M42 lenses on my Nikon D200 but not with infinity focus.
