Yours is variant #3- Super-Multi-Coated (often abbreviated to S-M-C, different than SMC)

Wonderful images Colton!
Thanks Bjørn
This one was done with the Super-Multi-Coated version, wide open on an APS-C digital Pentax K-01.

Thanks for the clarification on the different models. Yep, mine has the 8 aperture blades.
Appreciate the offer for a test Ccoppola82, but no need, as I'm a film shooter and it gets confusing comparing IQ between the two mediums.

My Lens is a Thorium lens, but it doesn't add up. I bought the camera and lens in 1969, so I'm still confused. But after researching it I just decided; I like the lens, I like the camera so I will forget about it.

You could pick up a Helios 44 variant (I prefer the earlier preset style) for pretty cheap for your portrait yearnings. The S-M-C 50/1.4 is desirable as it was the only one with the later coatings and 8-aperture blades, and yet has the more durable metal focus ring. The SMC version that came after is fine but doesn't feel quite as nice in use.

looking at the bokeh balls, it's not wide open, but anyway, none of this matters, great shot and great mood!
It's splitting hair comparing different lens. This pentax 50mm, and it's brothers are all great, I love them on K1, they do differ slightly but all have the same pictures signature which is just great for the price, enjoy them they are cheap and great great great!

If “takumar “ is not written on the Pentax 50/1.4, is it a very different lens from any of the Takumar versions or is it really a SMC Tskumar but Pentax stopped using the Takumar label?

Kuuan, lovely shots. They remind me of old style reportage - rally nice signature to this lens.

They didn't use the Takumar label after they went to PK mount, except for the budget line of lenses that had a less expensive coating than the main M/K lens lineup featured: 135/2.5, 135/2.8, 28/2.8, some zooms.
If it's a 50/1.4 by Pentax in M42, it is a Takumar.

I believe that the last version SMC Takumar 50/1.4 and the first version SMC PENTAX 50/1.4 were sold concurrently for awhile, and are optically identical.
Also, Pentax used basically the same 7/6 design for all their 50/1.4 lenses made after the first 8 element version, so you should see similar results from any of them.
I have used 3 different S-M-C Takumar versions, the SMC Takumar version, the SMC PENTAX version, the SMC Pentax-M version, and the SMC Pentax-FA autofocus version. In my experience images from the SMC Takumar version looked very similar to images from the SMC Pentax-FA autofocus version.
