I inherited a Pentax SP500 from a deceased friend's wife. While I love the camera, I have no use for it. In the spirit and memory of my lost friend, I would like to donate the camera to someone or a school that could really use it and not just take it and sell it. (Which I could have done. Believe me, I could use the extra cash.)

I will take any suggestions here from my learned compatriots on RFF.

Thanks in advance.

Keith

A nice Pentax screwmount SLR - a simplified Spotmatic
i.e. no self-timer, no marked 1/1000 shutter speed;
however the unmarked position beyond 1/500 is a functional 1/1000.
The meter will work fine with a readily available 392 battery.

Thanks Chris. I am quite familiar with the Spotmatic series.

Giannakis, I do like the results, but I really have no need for the camera, and would like to do something good with it. I know there are young people who would love to get into photography and can't afford a camera. I thought this would make someone a gracious gift towards self expression.

Keith, I certainly would be glad to take it off of your hands and let it join a nice collection of pentax glass and other cameras, but I am not a student or needy like that. I could only say that it would be well taken care of and not sold.

If your intention was to give it to a student, then I am not your man. I am a teacher though!

Funny coincidence. I've just last week inherited an SP1000 from my Dad (not deceased). I'll be keeping mine, but I too struggle in finding a use for it. It came with a few lenses, most notably the Super Takumar 50. My dad remembers buying it in a camera shop in Seattle, over 25 years ago. He was rather put out by the give away prices theses lovely things are going for these days. Good luck on your endeavour.
