Pentaxians... Any out there?

..
BTW where is a good place to start?

depends on what you are looking for
some suggestions: fully manual M42 camera, Pentax SV, Spotmatic or the latest and most advanced of the M42 Pentax, the ESII with auto exposure?
Early Pentax K mount, MX for fully manual, Pentax ME Super for budget, the Super Program and LX for the ultimate.
Later AF bodies, the MZ-5n, MZ-6, or the top, MZ-S?

see reviews of Pentax film cameras here: https://www.pentaxforums.com/camerareviews/pentax-film-cameras-i10.html

If you start looking in your local thrift stores you will find a selection of relatively cheap Pentax gear.

But beyond having fate decide, you need to decide what you want. Pentax has been around for decades. I personally am a big fan of the screw-mount takumars. Beautiful little lenses with a really lovely rendering.

I'm not much of a Pentaxian, having used lots of Nikons & Leica Ms over the years....but I have a black Spotmatic that I bought just to enjoy the 50mm 1.4 wide open. What a great lens!

A few frames of Provia I shot recently:

Those 645 slides look lovely scanned. Well done. I had a 645 Pentax but sold it.

I agree, the slides are gorgeous! i had a 645 as well, but sold it because i got the 6x7. :D

The 645s fast operation made it the best machine for eating film ive ever had!

Thanks guys! The P645s can definitely chew through the film if you are not careful

I am a Pentaxian, P30t plus A28/2.8, A50/1.7, A135/2.8 and M200/4. I also have a Z-1 with various SMC F zooms, a FAJ 75-300 oh and of course many of the DA lenses can be used on it.
I also have a K20D and K200D

After nearly 3 years of not using it, I recently got my Pentax MZ-L rigged up for use on my wheelchair camera mount...
This was the first AF Pentax film body I ever bought... back in 2009. I've since owned and used nearly every other AF Pentax body, and the MZ-L remains a favorite.

This was shot using the above combo, while out on a photo walk with fellow forum member GerryM.

Great shot and nice set up. I have two AF Pentax cameras, I like the ZX-5 because it is set up like a traditional camera (but it is not made well so I'm always nervous).

I have been a 'Pentaxian' since 1961 when i part-exchanged a Zeiss Contax IIIa for an Asahi Pentax S3 with 55mm f1.8 Auto-Takumar which I later sold then some months ago the bloke phoned me up asking if I would like my Old Camera BACK as "it was not working"-- well I got back the S3 and cleaned it up and lubricated with sewing machine oil all the cogs and levers in the base-plate and it 'creaked into LIFE' and has been working ever since !! I also have : MX (two- retired faulty), ME Supers, MZ-5, P30n, SV,SP1, SP-F,LX ( two-retired faulty),Zoom 90 compact, 6x7 and 6x7 Mk II. OH YES --- I also have a 'Digital' K10D bought 2007 ---

I have a ZX-5N that I used a lot back in 2014 and I was planning to use it on my camera mount, but when I pulled it earlier this year, it died after one shot... bad mirror motor gear :(

I really like the camera, but just can't justify spending $150 to repair it.

I'm waiting for my ZX-5 to die, I like the camera but like you too much to fool if it goes.
