Wow, that's quite the collection, Nick! And I thought I had a lot of 50mm lenses. :p

I just got a Pentax ME Super back from Eric Hendrickson, with a fresh CLA. No 8-element glass like Nick, just the simple "kit" SMC Pentax-M 50/1.7. It does close focus to 0.45m, and nearly pancake size, too. It's the miniature companion to my Pentax 6x7.

The 50mm 1.4 is a wonderful lens wide open. Since i don't do digital, i needed a body too:IMG_8546 by , on Flickr

I never intended to collect 50's, they just seem to accumulate... Trouble is that between the Takumars, K series and M series, there's a lot of interesting variations ;)

The 50/f1.7 was the first lens I had on my MX. Great bit of glass, and makes the M series bodies 'almost' pocketable :) Unfortunately I don't have this one any more...

That's a lovely black Spotty. A black-paint S-series screwmount body is probably the last item on my Pentax wishlist...

Thank you, I'll have to put a battery in it. I would bet the meter still works.

I may have posted these here before, but here are some images taken with my Dad's Pentax ME, now owned by me! Pentax M SMC 50mm f1.4. The small Pentax bodies like the ME, ME Super and MX are utterly gorgeous. I wish Pentax made digital cameras that looked like this, not the clunky chunks we see today.

I agree - I might well have bought into Pentax digital, if they'd looked like the M series.

I own an MX and three lenses. Small, light, and well-made. A joy to use, and IMO, a joy to look at.

Yes, indeed. If it wasn't for the noisy mirror slap, I could shoot with the ME and a few lenses for all of my film needs. The quiet shutter is why I got into RF's in the first place, apart from the (usually) smaller bodies and lenses. I have the SMC M 50mm f1.4 and SMC M 28mm f2.8, and I'd love to fill that out a bit more. Maybe a 24/2.8, a 40/2.8, an 85/2 and a manual focus zoom or two. And some Takumars, oh, it never ends. :D

Your "mirror slap" on a ME-Super indicates something wrong!
The shutter and mirror are well damped.
I worked as a pro with mostly Pentaxes, later Nikon-F and of course Leica-M.
The Pentaxes simply worked, no trips to service people, no mailing to the Fatherland..

Was luckily gifted a K1000 with 50mm f2 recently. Initially sceptical of it because of the student/beginner hype behind it, but after using it for a day it's actually a really nice camera. Build quality is excellent, as is the user experience for such a simple camera.

Mine has a ding to the prism housing, and to the bottom plate but is still working perfectly. Having had the test roll back it looks as thought the meter is fine and it doesn't look as though I need new light seals either.

I of course now have a GAS attack and want to investigate a Spotmatic and a SV after seeing how nice the K1000 is...

Shots from the test roll of C200 through the K1000, very happy with the results. Especially considering the 50 f2 smc-a is a bit hazy after looking through it with a led light.

Excellent shots raid! Our beaches in SW Florida are just as nice as yours, but I've never seen emerald green waters like that anywhere but the Florida Panhandle.

I took these photos yeaterday morning at Pensacola Beach...

Beautiful colors- what film are you using (Ektar?)?

I have a few Spotamatic bodies, but no Takamur lenses. I use them and Practika and a Fuji 605N occasionally with my Zeiss Ultron and other M42 lenses.
