Donald had a great suggestion for an outing that will be a little different. Lots of cars and people in their 50's finery, should be fun!

http://www.americangraffiti.net/

As an added bonus Donald will serve as our host and:
  1. Buy drinks for the group all day.
  2. Dress like the Fonz and keep the juke box playing.
  3. Sing a medley of his favorite Anson Williams songs.
  4. Provide local transportation via his '55 T-Bird.

Rangefinders...a 50's event...sounds perfect!

Wow that looks like fun! A bit of a stretch for me to attend but that should be a lot of fun. Especially shooting slide film and projected the images on a wall screen!:)

Feel free to pop on over Dave!

I hear there are some nice deals on airfare ;)

Oh, I wish I had a 57 Chevy or a 50s Corvette to drive and experience parts of the Mother Road (Route 66) en route....

Got the period cameras. Can change the haircut a bit and add some butch wax. Sirius XM has the oldies music station on Channel 5.

That would be stylin'!!

Hey, just found my Route 66 Nelson Riddle CD's and the tapes where I recorded the TV show.

Hi Kent,

Thanks for giving the idea a nudge.

I will be waiting at the Larkspur ferry in the Edsel to pickup you city dwellers

Yeah, come on, folks. I can live this vicariously through all of you!

If I could, I would love to show up and meet all the RFF members that could attend. Why not?:)

I'm going on Friday when it's not so crowded to see the cars, and I'll probably want to go back on Saturday too.

Naturally we're obliged to use 1950s cameras? And speak in '50s slang?

Possible Pub in Petaluma: Andresen's on Western Av downtown. Art deco linoleum floor, removed from Matson's Lurline ship-to-Hawaii; and enough stuffed wildlife to offend any & every vegetarian. I don't think they serve food, but it might be a good beer-&-gear gathering place.

(Is the Am. Grafitti festival downtown, or elsewhere in Peta?)

Kirk

Hi Kirk,

I don't know Petaluma that well - but that sounds like a good place to start.

I think the best of the day might be after 3pm - so perhaps a late lunch start 1:30 ?

"4pm – 9pm Cruise Starts – All classic cars Cruisin’ the Boulevard.
ATTENTION CRUISE WATCHERS! Perhaps the best place
to watch the cruise will be along Petaluma Blvd, south of B Street all the way down to Boulevard Lanes (Bowling Alley). "

This Sunday the Tour of California 1st stage cycle race starts up here in Santa Rosa.
It's also the last change to tour the USS Iowa in Richmond before it sails to LA - I will give that a go this Saturday morning..

Sorry to say that I will miss this gathering since I have other commitments that weekend. But I look forward to the resulting pics and police reports!

1:30 sounds good to me! Kirk's suggestion sounds interesting as well.

I've always wanted to do this event.......it's just a 3,000 mile drive for me and the "Blauchen" my 1957 Beetle, I already have the 1962 California license plate for effect! :) - check out that link to see my Beetle!

PS: I use FIREFOX to look at this website and post since Internet Explorer doesn't work??? This site worked fine before with IE but now it doesn't?? And seems you can't post photos in your threads here anymore, just links??? That's Stupid

I'm planning to go earlier, thinkin' that the parade part would be most crowded and maybe not so rewarding to photograph. But I'm happy about meeting at 1:30.

Kirk

(PS: OK no photos here, but links to Flickr are still OK?)
