Indeed the low shutter speed is a problem and thanks. I actually read the manual on the internet and found out about the ND filter. I'll probably buy one today.

What do you think about the usefulness of UV-filters?

Uh, low speeds are different problem, it's lack of service while top 1/500 is limitation by design. After I used my 7s in winter at -20C for some day slow speeds became erratical, later they somehow restored.

UV filters...in fact I haven't used them much, they should help near sea or at altitudes, but this aren't my typical shooting conditions. In midday I find warming filter helping, maybe UV would do similar. For protecting lenses of my about-US$10 cameras I use some bit of care, lens cap and finally, ERC or bag when transporting. But I can't claim they [UVf] are useless for protection purposes, in dusty or sandy environment I'd put one on definitely.

Yeah I was just wondering since I've heard people saying that they are useless on digital cameras, so what's their point anyways if it doesn "do" anything on film eighter?

Why useless, UV filters on digital protect front element, they aren't just so effective because digital cameras have UV filter built-in before sensors; not so with film cameras.

They aren't 'useless' per se. I just consider UV filters an extra method of protection for the lens. Extra insurance against damage. It is easier and cheaper to replace/clean a filter than a lens.

Yes I understand that they are a good protect physically, but what is that UV-filter actually made for? Does it protect from UV-radiation or something like that?

Anybody know where I can get a filter ring spare? I have a 7s that has mashed-up filter ring and it bugs me, 'cause it is the only thing wrong with the little gem.
