Hi! I'm just joining this forum and I would like some information about the Petri Color 1.9 rangefinder. I couldn't find any significant information about it.
I won one in an e**y auction and I'm very impressed with the construction quality. Any comments about the lens and reliability ? It looks pretty decent.

Thanks

There's a manual here: http://mikec62.tripod.com/manuals.html

I won a Petri Color 35 recently, although I haven't shot any film through it yet. It does seem incredibly well made. The only problem with mine is that the filter ring is dented. I've seen some filter ring straightening tools at micro tools, has anyone ever used these? Do they work?

Yes, they work so-so. The smaller the diameter, worse to repair. It's much easier to fix a 58mm dented thread than a 37mm.

I have used the filter ring straigthener that Micro Tools sells and it works very well. The key is patience, tighten the filter straightener and then add about 1/4 turn, then on the side opposite the dent hit the anvil head of the filter straigthener with a hammer. A couple of whacks and you will notice that the filter straightener is now loose, tighten plus 1/4 turn and whack again until the dent is knocked out. Some large dents require moving the straightener around a bit but with patience you can take out some pretty nasty looking dents. But as I stated earlier, patience is the key.
