Petrie Color 35 meter turn-off? Repost

How do you turn off the meter or do you just keep a cap on the lens? Mine is NOT the auto version. Butkus has a manual, but it's an auto--not mine. Retracting the lens doesn't turn it it off either.

PLEASE HELP ME BEFORE THE BATTERIES DIE !
