I was joking...
Seriously, I think it would be nice to have a cafe or restaurant on site!
Would not be surprised if they eventually open one. I'd call it "The Cell Block Cafe"

Ellisson,
This seems like a remarkable and fascinating place to shoot. I think it has a lot of potential. Seems iconic to me.
The world is not that big, and a Megabus ride to NYC is only $30.50 round trip.
Cal
I'd like to go back again and take another look, maybe shoot with a different camera/lenses and some areas I missed first time through. It would be more fun. Let me know the date, and I can probably join the group.

Philly is a great city.
First off there is mucho public art. I say perhaps more than NYC.
Some people decorate their houses with murals, I'm talking the entire side of a house, and the flavor is very original and very different. Basically a bold statement.
The other thing is that the city sprawls and is spread out. Not high rised and row housed which I think originally was developed in Philly. Ben says that as far as area Philly is actually bigger than NYC, but overall with about 1.5 million people it ranks only 5th as far as population.
I like that Philly retained the old and I didn't see the "Ghetto Busters" that I see in NYC. Center City proper though has a lot of new skyscrappers and a new skyline from when I was last there about a dozen years ago though.
I'm really liking that Philly is not far away. 30% of Philly residents don't own a car BTW. Really refreshing and different that makes me appreciate the differences of each city.

Philly has the first and original diamond district. I bought Maggie a big diamond, even though we live in sin, bought it in Philly.
I saw the stock exchange. When I retire I plan on trading again. I'm more of a swing and position trader verses a day trader.
I really liked the research and being on top of the news. I was pretty good at it. Like they say the stock market is a zero sum game where 10% are winners and 90% are losers.

I'll check with Ben.
So it looks like Sunday May 22d.
Also know there is plenty to shoot in Philly. Just choose your camera(s).

Cal,
Another great area to shoot is around the 30th Street Train Station. The station itself, while not the size of Grand Central, has some nice spaces around it. Views of the station architecture, activity near the station and the evolving Philly skyline from this area are very nice.
When I'm in the mood to shoot trains and the complex track layouts, climbing up higher in the parking garage adjacent to the station gives some nice perspectives. Over the years, I've found some great views of the city from upper levels of many city parking garages.

Ellisson,
Ethnically I'm Cantonese (Chinese) and I am drawn to photographing trains. On a September 11th I avoided Madhattan, but I was trespassing in a railyard. Even though I'm scared of heights I climbed a rickety railroad signal tower to get my shot.
It was annoying because I had to wait for Police helicopters top get out of my shots (shooting a Rolliflex and TeleRollieflex), until suddenly I heard a NYPD chopper doing tight circles directly over head.
Anyways I scurried and ran like a cockroach when the kitchen light goes on, and I evaded getting arrested.
Anyways the NYPD was rather persistent in hovering around. I found myself hugging a railroad steep shoulder of gravel embankment to stay hidden under a canopy of trees, but the gravel made me slip down like quicksand.
Anyways the shots were worth it.

I had a similar experience under the Hell's Gate Bridge. I was like... why are those choppers so close to me... until I remembered the date. Oops. I just stayed in clear view and did my business and I think they figured out I'm just some fool hanging out on Ward's Island.

John,
Well I was caught red handed breaking the law. Dutch Kills rail yard is not part of a public park even though I played there frequently.
Also was a victim of "If you see something say something" also nearby.
My guess is a skinny Chinese guy who is kinda lanky with a ponytail carrying a camera looks suspicious. The forensics is that some hipster couple dialed 911 and reported seeing a guy carrying a camera in an abandoned part of Long Island City. Anyways I know who dropped the dime because they were the incidental only other people in this vast vacant area.
A black limo came upon me an three guys dressed in black jumped out. It took a while until they got close till I saw they had badges. A bit of a relief, because I thought I was going to be jumped. Anyways I was standing in an empty lot full of ruble. The fence that once cordoned off the area to restrict access was knocked down from snow plows earlier during winter. Anyways I didn't end up in Rikers.

Fidel,
I'm a lazy slacker. For me its "hardly working" rather than "working hard."
For me work is mucho overrated.
Planning fun photo excursions and shopping for gear is much more important and satifying. Anyways if it were not for the internet and RFF I would not be able to stay awake. Basically I go to work to rest. LOL.

We will have a lively group. Thanks for joining in.
Also will you be shooting color or B&W again?
