Congrats Frank !!! If both camera and lens are in that good shape sounds like you did a very good deal (the Serenar 50/1.5 is pretty sought after).

I have a Canon 7 myself and yes, the shutter curtain wrinkles are very common (it's an unwrinkled one that is R@RE!). They don't seem to affect operation or at least that's the accepted opinion, it certainly seems to work properly for me.

Please let us know how you like it, I'm curious mainly about that pre-CanonP finder.

Congrats Frank - sounds like a good deal!

I doubt the wrinkles will have any negative effect whatsoever but should you down the road want to 'mint-it-up' there is a replacement service available for these shutters but it's pretty expensive (comparable to what you paid for your kit).

Richard, could you give me more info on the service you mentioned? Not that I think it'll need it but it's always good to have options.

(Did I mention the lovely faint "snit" sound the shutter makes as it fires? Sometimes you can hear quality as well as feel it. Oops, there I go waxing about older mechanical cameras again.)

I think Richard refers to the information pointed out in Karen Nakamura's site (and some others) about a complete shutter overhaul including new titanium curtains.

According to Karen, that service goes for $500 (also according to an overhauled 7 that is auctioned on eB@y now).

You may also ask Essex camera, I think I read on their website something about curtain replacement on Canon 7/p for a more affordable price, maybe they fit them with cloth curtains ?

I just read Joe's threads in the Canon rangefinder forum (wasn't interested in that before now) about getting his Canon P. I laughed and laughed. I know exactly how you felt!

gerry at kinderman also works on old canon rf cams (or so i have been told) and he is much closer to us, ie, in canada.
