The best camera is one that still works!
I think the black and white output from the X series is right up there with the MM and the Merrills. Great tones ... and very nice image.

Hi Godfrey, i'm just re-looking at your Leica X photos and if you don't mind I have a question for you: did you have opportunity to compare a Leica T with the X 113 ? I'm curious because sometimes thinking to upgrade from my X1 and having interchangeable lenses would be for sure a benefit...

I considered the T both before and at the same time that I was buying the X. It's a little harder to evaluate without some time using it since its controls and use model is so different a shooting experience from the traditional M. But, if I didn't already own the M9, I'd have bought one and eschewed buying the X.. Indeed, I almost sold the M9 and sent for the T system entirely.
It's native 23mm lens nets the same FoV and quality, on the same excellent sensor, as the X. And you can then add the additional native lenses, or fit the adapter and use Leica M or Leica R lenses. The control interface is different, and young, but works well now, has great promise, and will improve further as it is developed. The native lens line will grow. The basic camera is solid as a rock and the shutter is the smoothest, quietest focal plane I've ever heard.
But I decided to keep the M9 and therefore was looking for a more limited, carry all the time kind of camera with a single fast lens. I was happy with the X2 up to a point, but as soon as I handled the X typ 113, I knew it was a big step forward. I'm very glad I went for it as the X has proven to be a delight, and it has re-motivated me to pull out the M9 more as well.
No easy answer. I'd suggest you go handle both at a local Leica shop and get some feel for it. The T takes a little learning time.

Thanks for your input Godfrey, for sure I'll try one. I have no DSLR, no digital M and my only digital is the X1. Many options on the table, maybe too many!
