Thanks to Cal...this week, the grandkids are out of school and staying with us and they are looking for an adventure with two p&s cameras!

One, the youngest at age 6, will have the Canon Powershot A720 and the oldest at age 7, will have the Nikon 5400.

They will be given the cameras, set on P, and a list of items to photograph all through the neighborhood. This gives us a chance to get out and about in the beautiful fall weather and allow the kids to go crazy outside instead of indoors.😛

Of course, there will be prizes for participating and we will post their best image on my blog. This is kind of an extension of my project I started three years ago, "Children and Photography". But now they have their own cameras and will be given projects to complete during the upcoming Christmas holidays.

So, if anyone has some old digital cameras lying around inactive, this proves that they are very useful teaching tools. Sure, they could take pictures with their Nintendo 3 DS games at the risk of breaking/losing them but having a nice little digital camera all their own when they visit us gives them a chance to progress to manual setting the cameras after they get used to using them.

Okay, so nobody is responding.

Today was an absolute blast with the two kids. Showed them how to operate the cameras in about a minute and that was it! They are so smart, and used to using my own cameras when I let them.

I gave them a list of 15 items, grouped in three's for the following categories:

Color
People
Animals
Flowers
Thanksgiving/Christmas

Wow! They were super excited, running around trying to get everything from wide angle to macros and even chasing cars and trucks trying to get some action shots! They both took well over 100 photos and I am too busy to view them or upload to the computer. The few I did see on the LCD screen were really good!🙂

They will both receive a prize and get to see their winning photos on my blog. Talk about a fun day!😀

That is a great idea.

In my case, I showed my kids how to use the cameras and just let them go.

The youngest returned a card mostly full of SpongeBob (TV) shots... 😀

Hope you and yours are well, Dave.
