Recently in the Canon forum, "Clevername" mentioned going to his "special dark place" to retrieve some film from his camera. That reminded me of my special dark place that I go to, in order to load B/W infrared film into my camera. That would be the second and light proof bathroom in the abode. My photo tip is this; "when loading or unloading film in your special place, don't drop it into the cat's litterbox!"

It's no fun fishing it out, barehanded in complete darkness...

#714 - Last night, I dropped a Paterson reel into the toilet. - Maybe there is some wisdom with regards to leaving not just the seat, but the lid lowered as well.

That is dedication, fishing it out. The worst I had was dropping a Schneider 28mm F4 lens into a marsh, from the boardwalk. I went in after it into 3' of cold yucky water, and got it out. Went home for a shower afterwards. The Lens was water-tight, I always figured it had been designed by the guy who did U-Boat periscopes.

I can't think of any myself. I've lost my share of lens caps in the water and some filters too but I think that's about it.

People who don't make mistakes have a LOT of experience. Experience is only gained by making LOTS of mistakes! I have lots of experience but still make mistakes. 🙂

I learned a long time ago to keep the lid of the toilet lowered. I load my film developing tanks in the bathroom and the vanity top is very close to the toilet. A closed lid is necessary.

When I'm preparing a roll of developed film to dry, I rinse it in a large glass beaker of water treated with Photo-flow 200. I sit the beaker on top of the toilet lid! The film is then hung to dry in my bath tub/shower and the curtain is closed to keep dust away.

Well, a week ago i've lost the button of my pants, fell right into the toilet. Didn't fish it out.
In the very same moment i was thinking of which camera should i take along for the weekend to Budapest.
Does that count? 😀

I was changing filter for my Color Skopar 35mm/2.5C and when I tried to screw back the small lens hood, I slipped and dropped it into the sea (I was on a jetty catching the sunrise). I have to resort to buy a LH-2 Square Hood. This event ignited the Voigtlander accessories buying spree! 😛

It does have the Danube, some 100 m wide and 18 m deep in some places...
I even crossed the bridges a few times...
By walk, too...
Even looked down the water, there were huge ice blocks floating...
No i did not drop my camera!

I learnt last year I need to get my own darkroom.

Nothing bets having the girlfriend with a basket of dirty clothes open the door and turn on the lights in your "special dark place", after she hears a right racket going on in the laundry, with cussing, swearing and carry on, when I was attempting to load 220 film onto a non-working reel. Should have locked the door, 'Reel' cleaver.

When mixing your solutions in the graduated cylnder, be sure to use the same units for each. That is, do not measure the water in english fluid ounces and then the developer in u.s. fluid ounces; this will lead to folly. Measure both in the same units, and your film will thank you for it.
