Photobucket has lost the plot!

Aside from the new hideous interface with the worst thumbnail system I've ever seen you are now forced to sit there and suffer through a damned advertising video every time you upload an image file. A 50kb file uploads in a second or two but you can't actually save the image and review it in your chosen gallery until the ad finishes ... usually another thirty seconds so you're forced to sit there and wait.

On top of this when viewing any of your galleries there is now a permanent banner across the bottom of the page that consumes around fifteen percent of the height of your screen.

Photobucket has always been a fairly crappy hosting site IMO ... but it just got a lot crappier. Back to Flickr for general hosting I think!

We could start giving out the Crappy Hosting Award each year, and we inform photobucket.com that they are the recipients for this year!

I have a Zenfolio Pro account for the good stuff so it's no big deal. According to stats Photobucket is second to Flickr for usage which surprises me! Their new thumbnail system is similar to Facebook's in appearance?

Photobucket is one of those sites I use about twice a year only when the need arises. Unfortunately, each time I log on I find it has re-invented itself and I have to re-learn how to use it every step of the way. Change just for changes sake. No thanks.

I use Google Chrome browser with the Adblock extension and see no advertising video on Photobucket.

Ah ... I use chrome occasionally. I wonder if Firefox can do this?

The other thing that I find odd is the way the thumbnails crop images ... occasionally they are unrecognisable from the original image depending on the format.

I don't like PB and only ever use it now for photos that for some reason I don't wish to upload to my Flickr account. The interface is badly designed, uncool and sloppy. It has never been brilliant but since the last "upgrade" it has gotten much worse. I see myself using it less and less over time.

Just after they installed the lovely new interface they asked me to fill in a survey with my opinions of the 'upgrade' ... I enjoyed that! :D

It is abysmal.

They appear to be attempting to turn themselves into Friends Reunited. A site that got sold to ITV for £175m, and is now in Intensive Care and worth a thousandth of that.

I'm not so much worried by the dreadful interface, as to whether I'll lose the shots posted on there when they close down... I don't fancy copying them back to my computer and redoing all those old links but it can surely only be a matter of time.
