Not my experience.
I've not paid them a cent for years, and yet my pics from years ago are still there.
They are accessible - I have uploaded some of them to this forum in the past week.
And I have uploaded to my library on the site in the last week.
When I say in the last week, I mean after these reports started to circulate - I went there to check, and found that in my case the story was not correct.
Go figure ...
Just checked. Last posted images to this forum 1 day ago. Things that had been in Photobucket for several years.
They are still able to be viewed on this forum.

This. To users whose links are still "alive", check back from time-to-time and see how long that continues to be true.
What a ploy. One might almost suspect that PB, aware as they are that many, many people have used them to host listing photos for their eBay businesses, etc., could be "leveraged" into sitting still for a Shkreli Move.

The risk of disruption was always there. Some photo hosting solutions present less risk than others. Apple, Microsoft, Amazon Prime Photos and DropBox Cloud image sharing is less risky than smaller businesses such as Photobucket. Obviously the risk is never zero. However, I suggest Apple, Microsoft, Amazon Prime Photos and DropBox are no more risky at this moment than they were before Photobucket decided to blackmail their users.
Having your own site presents the least zero risk. This is more expensive than free solutions. My Domain Name and hosting costs are $6-$7 per month. Transmit (FTP application) was $40. Keep in mind your hosting company could go out of business or increase prices. Then you'd have to replace dead links just as you have to do because of Photobucket's blackmail.
At the risk of raising blood pressures to dangerous levels, the Adobe Photography CC package includes linked image sharing.

It's a big deal for many.
I personally can't stand Photobucket due to all the intrusive ads and popups. I've only used it for posting pics of items for sale, I'll just have to find a new host for those when needed.
I've been very happy with pBase for "serious" image hosting, I've been using them for over 10 years. The cost is very reasonable.

+1 for Pbase! It costs about $23.00 a year and has not gone up much in price since i began using the site going back about to about 2004.

One advantage, as I understand it, with using your own site to host your images is that as long as you maintain your domain name you can move to a different web hosting service without disrupting the links.

I just spoke to my volunteer system geek.
He says that if it's still down tomorrow I should just cancel and get another service. Amazing that they set this all up within 30 minutes or so for a new customer but take so long when an existing customer has a problem.
Yes, he did say that it's a piece of cake to move the domain name to a new provider. That's the good news.
The bad news is that with the Gallery software, all of the existing links to photos will most likely break. 🙁

I am actually fortunate in that every photo I uploaded to photobucket is contained in a backed up folder on my computer. I am not even sure why I did this but it may have been the second smart thing I have done in my on line life.
The first smart thing was setting up a regular back up schedule to a couple of different locations.

I suspect a lot of people are headed out of there. I am certainly out.
It probably isn't quite so easy for some. Those who have long running blogs with their images linked to photobucket, others with business webpages or ebay and amazon postings. In fact I can see some people being forced to pay the $40 per month until they can get things sorted out where they are not dependent on the bucket.
