Photobucket sets a warning example for the future. Let's see if/when someone decides to do same with Flickr.
Fingers crossed! They (as well as the rest of the Yahoo Empire) were recently bought out by Verizon.

That is probably not going to change the future for Photobucket. The deal for Yahoo was finalized almost exactly a month ago, before the Photobucket suicide. At most it may hurry the site's demise.

...the Photobucket suicide...
Well said.
My wife just got the first email from PB last night. She hasn't uploaded in years.

The best camera is one that still works!
I remember reading a few years ago that photobucket were second behind flickr for users and traffic etc. Hard to believe that they can do something this dumb having been in such a strong position. Their decline started when they decided to make the site look more like social media than anything to do with actual photography. Their facebook page has suddenly gone very quiet ... having read all the abuse hurled at them they said they were going to make response to the input the'yd received but so far have come up with nothing.
This has been quite a significant thing for many people here I suspect because although many of us weren't happy with some of these sites we used them none the less assuming they could be relied ... but now we have a forum with some serious image holes in it that we are forced to live with.

They finally deleted my account..a week later..
Thought that they would possibly rethink their business strategy..and offer new terms..
But..
They are probably just trying to go bankrupt..and write everything off..

It took almost two weeks for them to finally cancel my subscription and allow me to actually delete my account. I just figured it was because they were getting an overwhelming number of requests to cancel.
When the e-mail finally came to notify me that my subscription was cancelled they were very polite about it.

What is interesting to me is that we still need hosting sites... There is only one site that I know of and access on a regular basis that still requires the use of an external hosting site to post decent sized photos is RFF. There was a tease of an upgrade proposal that included photo hosting... BUT it never happened... very disappointing. I stopped using a modem years ago... the technology is available... a photography forum should provide it's own decent "internal hosting".
Just my 2 cents...

RFF do have internal hosting.

In some places. In Vermont, not possible. I can't send a text message from downtown or from the grocery store. My phone sometimes works in the house without wifi. I was at FedEx today dropping off a package. Their door alert was not working and there was a sign that said call us in back at this number. I dropped the call.
When we do have connection it is often erratic and slow. Even a dedicated wire doesn't mean much around here.

I bet you just love auto play HD video...
To be fair, I can take or leave internet connections and often travel without a computer, only my old flip phone (voice and SMS). It's just when I read an interesting post and have a related photo - only to think of the time to host and link the photo, more often than not I just give up vs. spending the 15-20 minutes... drag and drop would be so easy... it's not the end of the world but still.

Yeah. A half a second at a time with half a minute between...
I’ve found less and less interest in posting images for this same reason.

Has anyone had any of these problems with Tumblr? I've been thinking of opening an account with them.
