I'm a member of the Photographic Historical Society of New England, which is the group that puts on the Photographica Show that you asked about. About six years ago this show moved to Wakefield, MA. While the show is now smaller (primarily due to Ebay and digital) than it was twelve years ago, about 700 attendees still show up to Photographica twice a year so we must still be doing something right.
The show will take place on September 21 (9-4) and 22 (9-3) in Wakefield, MA at the Americal Building, 467 Main Street. The location is only a few miles south of exit 39 on I95 (128). Admission $5, seniors $4 and students free with ID.
The hall will be totally filled up with 80 tables full of analog photography equipment. There will be dealers from Asia, Europe, and Canada who will be both buying and selling at the show. There will be at least eight Dollar Tables filled with great photo accessories that the club mostly sells for $1.00 an item. The club has never had so much equipment for the Dollar Tables as it does for this show so there should be some amazing deals to be had.
At this show there will also be an 100+ lot auction late in the afternoon. At the auction there will be a Leica M3 up for sale along with several lots of Leica accessories, books, and old catalogs. There will be lots of Exactas, long Nikon glass, a Canon 1200mm lens without the Sherpa required to carry it, and some Russian cameras to name a few lots.
If you are in the area and you haven't been to this show in awhile, it's really time that you stopped by. The people there are great and there are deals to be had. This is a case where a smaller show is actually a better show. The dealers have more time to talk with you. There are some very major players who attend and deal at this show. Several of the dealers are exclusively Leica people.
