As some of you read in this THREAD, I spent the other morning photographing the fire that gutted a crack house around the corner from where I live. Here are some photographs (apologies for my lamentable scanning abilities:eek: ).

So that's the "crackhouse"? ;-)

I'm going to have to agree with Back Alley, you got a few really good ones.

There are some great shots there. Thanks for showing us. I do have to agree about firefighting in the Great White North - brass monkeys need not apply.

Some nice shots there. I love fighting ice oh I mean fires in the winter.

Joe colour (note the Canadian spelling) can work with fires very nicely.

Thanks for the kind words guys.

airds, I don't often shoot colour film. I grabbed what I had and ran out the door to find the fire. However, as John's photograph demonstrates very nicely, colour can be very effective in these types of situations.

I think the B&W images help portray the cold scene.
Me too. After the third pic, I went and got my mittens. Marc, well done and thanks for sharing. I bet the firemen from that station [or their families] might enjoy a copy of a few of those shots.

Thanks again guys. Yes, I will be dropping a few prints off at the station house.

and just WHY are you familiar with where the local crack house is?!?!?! :D

Or did you mean thats a local camera store? ;)

My favourite is the one with the hose running through the middle of the street. Lovely.

Great photos. Luckily here in Australia I don't have to worry about my hose freezing :)

Fire says colour, but I prefer B/W. It keeps it gritty and real...

Some of the most magnificent photos I have ever seen of firefighters and fires is in a book called FIRE! It is a pictoral account of the FDNY in the 70's. All B/W - beautiful, haunting and touching.

Here are two of mine and the cover of the book. For those interested I can supply the ISBN. The B/W would have been taken with my trusty OM1 which I used to take to fires when I could.

Cheers.

John
