I somehow seem to prefer sharing pictures from Burma (Myanmar) in this thread...

Well, I finally received my Minolta 85mm f1.4 AF. This lens is amazing. Recently, I have added Minolta's 100/2.8, 85/1.4, 50/3.5 and 35/2 to my kit. These lenses are outstanding. I do not have any Minolta G series lenses. I cannot imagine them being any better than the ones I just listed!

All with the 85/1.4.

You have several of Minolta's best lenses. The "G" term came later and was not applied to the earlier versions of the 85/1.4 and 35/1.4, two lenses that I recently sold. But most users consider these "G" lenses because the optical designs were essentially the same as the later versions. The later G versions added flash distance detection (two extra electrical contacts on the lens mount end) , designated "D" on the lens, and wider/slotted focusing rings. Other excellent Minolta lenses such as the 35/2, 28/2, and 100/2.8, while not designated G, are much sought after, reflected in the used lens pricing.

The 35/1.4 AF is also highly sought after for portrait work and beautiful bokeh. The 135STF, while not AF, is of the same era, and is probably the best of the bunch.

The 135 STF isn't from the same era as it is from 1999. The 35/1.4 and 85/1.4 are from 1987.

If you want to know more about Minolta (en Sony) lenses, mhohner and Dyxum have loads of information.

Enough talk, more pictures. This one is with the 85/1.4G:

I'm seriously in love with the Minolta 85/1.4. Just to change things up a bit, here
is a product shot with the 85/1.4 (at f2.8 (?), from my recent Ultron thread) 🙂

Two lenses missing in your line-up, Maiku, the 200/2.8 and 500/8 🙂

Forgive me for sharing cat photos ... my excuse is that Tesla below is still pretty new to our household, we adopted her a couple of weeks back. Anyways, the shot on the left is with the 85/1.4, and the two on the right with the Minolta 21/2.8 AF (cropped a bit). Either would have been much more difficult to take with a Leica ...

ferider,

The LA-EA4 adapter is great. I find auto-focus fast enough to get great my fast moving kids. I am happy I bought a7 and LA-EA4 to use with my Minolta glass.

Sony A900 | Minolta 100-300 APO (D) | 100mm | f/9 | 1/500s | 160iso

Sony A900 | Sony 50/1.4 | f/9 | 1/250s | 160iso

The Sony 50/1.4 is identical to the Minolta 50/1.4 (which I also own) and I am always amazed by the sharpness of this lens at f/9, f/10....
