I've been skateboarding for over two decades at this point. Made a life of it, turned pro, competed, travelled the world, all that. I'm gradually building up a pretty decent collection of images of friends and people I meet skateboarding in various contexts. Not sure what I'm going to do with them all yet.

Respect to people who establish new routes and put up FAs! For better or worse, I'm one of those said plastic gym pumpers. But our kids are really into climbing now, too, so we hope to get outdoors or real rock more. Of course I'm sure you recognize Gunsmoke in JTree (those old school routes are stout!), but here's a photo of my daughter at Castle Rock State Park, our local bouldering area here in the South Bay Area.I miss climbing soooo much!
Climbed all over the world. Many routes put up in western NA. Faded after moving somewhere with no rock. Gym scene lost me after the sport became trendy with plastic pumpers. Nearest decent rock is 3+ hours away in good weather. Used to be such an integral part of my being. Sold my land just outside JTree a couple years ago. I bought it mid 80s to ensure I had a camp site whenever the monument (pre-park days) was full up. I was "hard core". All in the past now ☹️
I'll look for photos to post here.

My adult kids got me back into climbing last summer. Now I'm bouldering indoors to train for climbs outdoors... really enjoying it.

Awesome! We just got back from a bouldering trip to Red Rock near Las Vegas. Most people go to Las Vegas for the casino resorts, but we went climbing instead. 😁My adult kids got me back into climbing last summer. Now I'm bouldering indoors to train for climbs outdoors... really enjoying it.

That's great! That's where Alex Honnold lives I think, I see there's great climbing there. On Friday I'm travelling to Fiordland (South Island here in New Zealand) to go climbing, should be amazing. There are long multi pitch routes there but with the short autumn days now we may be limited to shorter climbs.Awesome! We just got back from a bouldering trip to Red Rock near Las Vegas. Wow, that route looks steep! And great timing on the capture, too! I don't use my TLR enough to be proficient at action shots. I brought my Rolleicord to Red Rock, but I don't think any of the bouldering photos I took are as dynamic as this. Anyway, here's a photo of my wife trying the final few moves of Gunsmoke, an 80-foot (24m) long traversing boulder problem.

Gaah. All this climbing discussion (and photos). Honestly I just get depressed...
Nice to see climbing in NZ. One of my climbing pals just left NZ to go back to Wales. His standing invite to enjoy some NZ rock is no longer valid. But like I said earlier... I'm an absolute slug these days.
Been to Red Rocks once but didn't climb much. By buddy did... but I was injured. Castle Rock is one of "the classic" spots on west coast for accessible bouldering and short TRs ...along with rubidoux in Riverside county and that area in San Diego county I can't remember now...used to find Chris Sharma and his dad there often...what's that place called??? Damn memory. Anyway, climbing has changed a bit since I started mid 80s 😎

That bouldering looks amazing. Yes Mt Iron has a lot of steep climbs. I used my M4 for that shot, tried a few with the Rolleiflex but they weren't great.

It sounds like you need to get back into climbing! I gave up 30 years ago with a move to a city without decent rock. I still live there, the best climbing is a 1 hour flight away, or a 5 hour drive. Hopefully I can maintain my enthusiasm now im back doing it. I'm training indoors, or was at least until I cracked a rib recently.
NZ isn't amazing for climbing, poor rock. There are some good limestone crags but the best is the Darran mountains in Fiordland. Granite crags in rain forest and big multi-pitch walls, some only accessible by boat and sheer above the sea.

Ah, I must have gotten confused with some other Rolleiflex photos you've posted and missed the M4 detail. One more Gunsmoke photo, near what's probably the crux of the traverse. We spent the afternoon in that area, because as you can see, there's a bit of shade. That bouldering looks amazing. Yes Mt Iron has a lot of steep climbs. A new one from the weekend:

Aaron Watts, No Handed 50-50, England, 2023
(Leica Ic, Voigtlander 21/4 Color Skopar, Fomapan 100 in Rodinal)
I saw this location and the way the light came through it when I was out and about a while back, but this is the first chance I had to actually photograph someone there. The surface is awful (as you can tell), but Aaron made it work. It's great having talented friends you can press-gang into these things.
