Thanks for posting this.

I put together an entry for the "Fence" this year. Let's see...

My series of 5 shots involves being clueless. I was with John in Harlem on the day of the Trayvor Martin verdict. John and I got confronted by "Orlando" who got in our face about our privilege and entitlement expressing his anger. The writing is an important part of the submission.

This year the Fence will be displayed in 7 U.S. cities and in Calgary Canada.

Last year I volenteered at Photoville. I put in some face time, met some people, and learned a lot. It was a very worthwhile experience being part of it. I think I will do it again because it was a rewarding experience.

Luckily I got a ticket to hear Pete Souza speak (President Obama's White House Photographer).

We were two of the lucky 700 who attended. The tickets sold out fast (free). What a great inspiration I got.

Last year I gained mucho insight into how Dumbo got redeveloped into a new photo district. I got the smut on how Photoville was supported and how photography got anchored.

My hope is that this year I may actually be part of Photoville via a display of my work through the "Fence." Interesting to note that the work statement is crucial (200 words) because this work statement will be published alongside the 5 images that create a series.

I spent a lot of time seeing how the Fence was curated. This is key to making a strong submission.

Also helped me grow as a photographer. My identity is really of a documentary archiver. I'm not really a street photographer or photojournalist, but there are elements there. Really I'm a documentary photographer creating an archive. Anyways this is a way to frame shooting a lot and editing later which is part of my lazy slacker style. "Time is the best editor," I say.
