Pictures piddling around

Wow, xtol + fomapan 200 looks very nice. What's the grain like at 100% magnification? I did some fomapan 200 in rodinal several weeks ago, and although nice, it gets rather grainy in areas of uniformity, especially skies.

Hey chaps - a result from todays piddling. Not the gratest picture in the world, but a fair test of exposure, focus and developing. This is Delta 400 in a newly serviced FED 2 with chrome Jupiter 8. Processed in Rodinal at 1 + 50 for 20 minutes. I like the sharpness, shadow details and range of tones. I had hoped for less grain. The man in the picture is my esteemed friend Viv, doing his duty with the dishwasher.

Daniel - once again, top quality piddling. Well done.n Yesterday, I went piddling with my Zorki 5, Industar 61 LD, and favourite Agfa colour print film at the Zoo.

Thanks Daniel - the loss of Agfa colour film caused much wailing and teeth gnashing in our house. I bought a box of 100 rolls from the receiver in Germany so I am OK for a while and I will buy some more soon. I think I read somewhere that the film business is starting up again, but I am not sure.

Retrophotographic in the UK say they will be able to supply B+W Agfa film for at least another year.

I saw that rumour too. It is based on a close truth ... the polyester stock (the plastic film) will be manufactured again, but not the silver halide emulsion to go along with it. They are just making the plastic base. That's unfortunate.

Arghh! :bang:

¡Basta! already. We get it. Jim

I love this attitude - it's one of the reasons I like the FSU stuff. My best bargain ever has to be my £8 Yashica GSN and with Agfa film bought by the 100 rolls at 60p per roll, you can't go wrong.

When I take out my M6 (which I love as much as my Zorkis), I have a different feeling. I know I am engaging warp drive and will soon be sent across the universe in a quality machine. But the Soyuz rocket got there too! 😉

As an old friend of mine likes to say, "It's not the wand; it's the magician."

The Fed 2 is one of the nicest 39mm mount cameras around irrespective of country of origin. I bought mine in Leningrad in the early 60s, I gave it a thorough service and recovered the body recently, it has served me well over the years. Enjoy yours, an underrated camera at last getting the recognition it deserves. Even a fairly well known artist used one!! see att.
